HOLDER FOR SHADES OR GLOBES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 2, 1911.
Patented June 25, 1912.
Serial No. 658,197.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LORIN W. YOUNG, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Shades or Globes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to holders for lamp shades or globes, and especially to holders for heavy glass units employed in connection with electric lamps.
The object of the invention is to provide a holder which can be easily installed or removed or attached to the globe or shade and which is capable of use on new or old equipment.
An advantage of the device is that it contains no springs or screws requiring manipulation, but when the parts are assembled they are automatically looked upon the shade, to hold the latter.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
The holder consists of three parts, two of which are halves united to form an inner member which will join over the top of a lamp socket, and these halves are retained together by a locking collar or casing fitting around the same.
The inner member comprises the two halves referredto, each of which has arms 6 and 7 united at the top to a half ring 8 the arms being bent downwardly to supporting connection with a semi-circular flange 9 on which the rim of the globe 1O rests. The arms 7 are half arms, so that when the halves are placed together all the arms are symmetrical, and the ring 8 will fit around the top of a supporting member or lamp socket, or otherwise arranged to hold the globe in place with respect to the lamp. The halves of the inner member may be entered through the hole in the shade and slipped into position as shown. The arm 6 has a dove tail tongue or rib 11, ar-
sleeve 15. The collar may he slid up or down to position.
In assembling the parts the halves of the inner member are inserted through the hole in the globe, and the collar is then slipped on from above, the tongue and groove engagement locking the members against accidental movement. To separate the holder it is simply necessary to lift the collar and disengage the halves of the inner member.
I claim:
1. A holder for a lamp shade or the like, comprising an inner member made in separable sections and provided at its lower end with a supporting flange for the shade, and a collar fitting around said sections and binding the same together.
2. A holder for a lamp shade or the like, comprising an inner member made is separable sections and provided at its lower end with a supporting flange for the shade, and a collar fitting around said sections and binding the same together, said collar and sections having interlocking parts respectively engaging each other.
3. A holder for a lamp shade or the like, comprising an inner member made of a plurality of rigid segmental sections and having an outwardly projecting flange to support the shade, and a collar fitting around said sections to hold the same together, said collar and sections having, respectively, interlocking projections and recesses adapt-ed to prevent relative movement of the sections and collar.
41. A holder for a lamp shade or the like, comprising an inner shade-supporting member divided lengthwise into sections to permit the same to be passed separately into the opening in the shade, and a collar adapted to be slipped over the end of said member when said sections are assembled, and having sliding engagement with the various sections thereof, to hold said sect-ions against relative movement.
5. A holder for a lamp shade or the like,
comprising an annular shade-supporting In testimony whereof, I aifix my signamelnber, divided lengthwise into sectilons, ture in presence of two Witnesses: each section havin a tongue exten ing lengthwise thereon, ind a collar adapted to IN YOUNG 5 fit around said member, to hold the sections Witnesses:
together, and having grooves in Which said F. M. EGAN, tongues fit. JAMES E. LITTLE.
