This invention relates to improvements in egg carriers .or receptacles, and the primary object ofthe same is to provide an improved, simple, durable and inexpensive device of this character which is adapted to be collapsed and shipped in a knocked down condition.
A further object is to provide an ini; proved device of this character comprising a flexible body portion ladapted to be bent into shape, and improved means for hold-v ing the parts in position for use. l
A further object is to provide improved means for dividing the body portion into the desired number of compartments. 'v
A further object is to provide improved locking and dividing strips for the body portion, and improved means for holding said strips against accidental displacement.

accomplishment of other new and useful objects as will appear, the` invention consists in the features of novelty in the const-ruction, combination and arrangement of the several parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed and shown in the ac'- companyingdrawings illustrating an embodiment of the invention, 1and in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view of an improved device of this character constructed in accordance with t-he principles oftbis invention. This body portion may be of any size and configuration, according to the size of the receptacle it is desired to construct, and is preferably rectangular in configuration. The body portion is provided along two diametrically opposite edges with vspaced slots 11, 'which open outwardly through the edges of the body, and the slots in one edge are arranged in line with the slots in the oppiosite edge. The body portion is also provided with a lplurality of slots 12, arranged within the edges. of the body portion and in line lwith the slots 11 in the edges of the body. 1 These intermediate slots 12 are preferably spaced from each other to form par- .allel rows andare also spaced from the slot-s in the respective adjacent edges. Any number of these slot-s 11 may be provided, according to the number of compartments into which it is'desired to divide the receptacle, and any number of slots 12 may be provided, according to the number of partitions itis desired to form in the b'ody The blank thus formed and comprising the body portion 10 is adapted yto be bent to form partitions 13, which extend'entirely across the body portion and are-parallel with the edges of the blank. \In the present exemplication of the invention, the blank is provided with two rows of slots 12 to form two partitions 13, and thegbody portion is provided with creases 14 which intersectv the slots 12, said creases adapting the material to form the partitions 13 and when so bent, the lower edges of the slots 12 will be substantially ,in line with .each other below the edge of the partition, and will open through the to of The edges o the body portion in which the slots 11 are located are also bent, as atl, to kform side walls which are spaced from and are parallel with the respective partitions 13, and the Walls 15 are of such a height that the slots 11 therein will register with the slots 12 and the bottom of the slots will be located in substantially the same plane as the bottom of the slots 12. When it is desired to collapse the recep tacle, all that is necessary is to remove or detach thelocking strips16 from the body portion, after which the latter may be stretched out into a flat form, as shown in Fig. 2, so that any number of these receptacles may be shipped in a compact space in a v collapsed form to the user, who may assemble the parts to form the receptacles in the manner `set forth.
If desired, two of such receptacles may be connected togetherl by a suitable connecting device 20, which may be'ofany desired constructlon, and this device 20 is adapted to engage. one of the walls 15 of two sections,
which the other receptacle may be closed Y upon vthe lower receptacle in the manner shown in Fig. 8 of'the drawing, so that one of the sections will serve as a cover for the other section. v p
Obviously, the connecting or fastening device 20 may be dispensed' with, and one of these receptacles loosely placed upon the top of another, in which event they will be held from displacement with respect to each other by the eggs within the compartments, which project into both of the coperatingv compartments. It is also to be understood that the grooves or recesses 17 may also be formed in any desired or suitable manner.
There are, ofcourse, many ways in which A trated 1n Fig. 6, and consists in making the top and bottom blanks in one iece. When thls is done, however, it is desirable to prof vide the combined blanks at their line of conjunction with an offset bend 20a, which not only constitutes the hinge uponwhich the top and bottom members of the carrier turn relative to each other, but which forces these members away from one another when Ithey are'opened, and .thereby prevents the protruding ends of the strips or partitions 16 from interfering with the opening movement. In' order that the strips may be inserted in their respective slots -11, notwithstanding the presence of the shoulders 19 at the ends thereof, the slots are made as shown in F ig. 5 with enlargements 11b which join the two adjacent slots 11a in the extreme edges of the top and bottom sections of the carrier, these enlargements 11b allowing the shoulders 19 at the ends of the strips to pass through the Voutward bend 2Oa when the strips are being inserted. y In order that the invention might be fully understood the details of the foregoin embodiment thereof have been thus speci cally described, but
