To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. Hon- LACHER, a citizen'of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nozzles, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an im provement in nozzles and has for its object to provide a nozzle for vacuum cleaners and for similarpurposes, having an adjustable means mounted in its lower face for making frictional contact with the surfaces over which the nozzle is moved.
A further object is to provide a means of compressing the air' drawn into "the nozzle, into a thin sheet-like stream, thereby increasing its power of suction, and yet afbottom plan view.

Near each end of the casing, at the inner side is formed a depending stud 4 provided with screw threads, and having at its base a shoulder 4. An interior casing 3, having the depending flange 3 is made to fit within the outer casing, upon the said studs, and when placed upon the shoulders 4; thereof the lower edge will stand flush with that of the outer casing, thereby leaving a narrow space 8 between the two casings which will have the effect of concentrating the current through the nozzle, and which will receive dust and all small particles, except those which should be otherwise removed. The inner casing will be held in place upon the studs by means of nuts 5. Below the inner casing, upon each of said studs, is placed a nut 9 against which the plate 11 carrying the teeth 12 rests. This plate is held in place by the nuts 10, bearing against its lower side. By adjustment of these nuts the plate may be raised and lowered so as to vary the position of the teeth with reference to the edges of the casings. The tips of the teeth should be adjusted to bear slightly upon the surface of the article being cleaned, though they may be lowered so that most of the weight will rest upon them, in caseswhere vigorous agitation is necessary to dislodge the dust collected in the article. On the other hand the teeth may be raised so as to stand entirely above the article, in cases where injury might be caused. v
By the use of the device herein shown it is possible to remove dust from delicate fabrics without injury; and coarser articles may be agitated to any degree desired ac cording to their condition and texture.
Having now described my invention so that others skilled in the art to which it. pertains, may make and use the same, what I claim is- 1. As a new article of manufacture. a base having a depending annular flange. a tubular stem opening within the flange and rising from the upper surface to form a hand hold, studs secured upon the lower face of said base, a contact plate having rigid teeth on its outer surface secured upon said studs, and means for adjusting the plate on said studs, whereby the teeth may be raised and lowered with reference to the edge of said flange.
