LUBRICATOR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY G. Norrsnvcnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jewell, in the county of Defiance and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lubricators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to lubricators and particularly to one wherein the lubricant will be fed by gravity to the object to be lubricated, the object of the invention being to provide an eflicient dust-proof container for the lubricant and to provide in the discharge orifices of the container an absorbent. collector which will operate to collect dust or foreign matter and which will prevent the sediment in the bottom of the lubricant container from being discharged with the lubricant.
In the drawing, forming a portion of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views :Figure 1 is a front view of the lubricator. Fig. 2 is a section on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
My improved lubricator comprises a lubricant container 1 which in the present in stance is of rectangular configuration, being provided in one of its vertical walls with an opening 2, the edges of the wall above and below the opening being formed U- shaped to provide longitudinal guide ribs 3 which fit in correspondingly formed grooves in the longitudinal edge portions of a clo sure 4. This closure is formed at one end with a manipulating bead 5 which is offset from the plane of the closure and adapted to bear against the portion 6 of the front wall of the lubricant container for a purpose to be hereinafter described. The opposite end of the closure is formed to provide a vertical tongue 7 which is curved longitudinally and which is adapted to be frictionally engaged with the portion 8 in the front wall of the lubricant container, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. The tongue 7 through being curved vertically, as described, is offset slightly from the plane of the closure so as to cooperate with the OE- set portion of the bead 5 when the tongue and bead are frictionally engaged with the front wall of the lubricant container so as Specification of Letters Patent.

This construction is also such that the opening 2 in the lubricant container will be entirely closed so as to prevent the entrance of foreign matter into the container.
The container is provided with a vertical series of partitions 9 which extend upwardly from the bottom of the container and which are suitably spaced from each other so that the container is divided on its bottom into a plurality of compartments 10. Each compartment is provided with a discharge nipple 11, the upper end of the nipple being disposed above the plane of the bottom of the container and the lower end of the nipple being extended below the plane of the bottom, as shown. This construction is such that the lower end of the nipple may be fitted to a suitable conveying tube, (not shown), whereby the lubricant can be con veyed from the container to the object to be lubricated. By extending the upper ends of the nipples above the plane of the bottom of the container the sediment in the lubricant will be held against being discharged into the nipple and will be retained on the bottom of the container. To further protect against oil or foreign matter being conveyed with the lubricant to the object to be lubricated I provide in each compartment a relatively large absorbent member 12 which may be raw cotton, felt ,or any other suitable material which will operate to absorb the lubricant and permitthe same to be fed to the conveying tube. Each absorbent member is formed with a depending reduced portion which extends into the nipple.
The device is extremely simple in construction and is particularly desirable for use upon threshing machines or the like, hence the provision of means for preventing the accumulation of dust or foreign matter in the lubricator and the provision of a plurality of feed nipples, the object being to so arrange the nipples that they may be attached to a corresponding number of conveying tubes, which latter may be led to the various portions of the machine to be lubricated.
