and useful Improvements in eightMotors and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in mechanical motor apparatus and comprises a simple and efficient device of this nature having various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the appa ratus, and Fig. 2 is an end view showing in dotted lines parts of the apparatus folded.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the runners upon which the apparatus is mounted, said runners being connected by crosspieces B. A shaft, designated by letter I), is journaled in suitable bearings in said runners, preferably at a location adjacent to the middle of the same, and pulleys E are fas tened to said shaft whereby connection may be made with any motor apparatus. Mounted upon the shaft D are the fixed pulleys K and H and the loose pulleys J and I.
A rectangular outlined frame has journaled in the ends thereof the counter shafts O and O, and upon the former of which a ulley Q is mounted and adapted to rotate therewith and also a loosely mounted pulley Q by its side. The inner ends of the shafts O and 0 each has a beveled pinion L fixed thereto which are in mesh with the beveled pinion L keyed to the vertically disposed shaft M, which latter has tapering ends M engaging bearings in the top and bottom of said frame. Bearing members, designated by letter I, are mounted upon the bottom of the frame and support the inner ends of the shafts O and 0. Fixed to said shaft M is a bracket arm T having a longitudinal slot T formed therein and a receptacle S having Specification of Letters Patent.

:1. lug S projecting from its bottom passes through said slot T and a nut S is mounted upon the threaded end of the lug and serves as means for holding the receptacle in dif ferent adjusted positions upon said arm. The shaft 0 has a pulley O fixed thereto and a loose pulley 0 while a belt O passes about the loose pulley I upon the shaft D and the loose pulley O and a similar belt H passes about the fixed pulleys H and Q.
A belt shifter is provided, consisting of a longitudinally movable rod IV, having laterally projecting fingers IV for engagement with the belts and an operating lever V is pivotally mounted upon a pivot V and has pivotal connection with the rod IV, whereby the latter may be moved longitudinally and the fingers W causing the belt to be shifted from one set of pulleys to the other accordingly as it may be desired to cause the weighted arm T to swing in different directions. A lever X is ,pivotally mounted upon a pivot X carried by the pivotal standard X which latter is mounted upon a pivot X upon one of the runners. Said lever has its upper end X forked and receives the end of the bracket member X which is fixed to one end of the frame.
When the device is adapted for use as a toy, a push button Y is provided which may be pushed upon for the purpose of causing the frame to tilt in one direction, and a coiled spring Y is fastened to a fixed pin Y projecting from the lug carrying the push button and,the other end of the spring is fastened to the frame, said spring being put under tension as the spring is pushed upon and serving to return the frame after having been pushed forward by the push button.
In operation, as the frame is swung upon its pivot, the weighted bracket arm may be caused to rotate and also the shaft M carrying the same, thereby transmitting rotary movements in opposite directions to the shafts and O.
