To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GARRE'rr F. EMoH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Woodville, in the county of Sam.
dusky and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Automatic Fire- Alarm Apparatus; and I do hereby declare thei'ollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to electrical fire signal apparatus, and has for its object the provision of an improved apparatus of this character which is simple and efficient in its construction and operation, inexpensive of easily and quickly installed, thus enhancing the practicability and commercial value thereof. The invention is fully described in the following specification, and while in its broader aspect, it is capable of embodiment in numerous forms, a preferred embodiment thereof is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,-

Referring to the drawings, A designates a touch-0E unit of my invention, which is shown in the present instance, as comprising a base block 1 and the fixed and movable electrical contact parts 2 and 3, respectively, which are insulatlngly carried by said base in any suitable manner.
The movable contact part 3 is shown in the present instance as comprisinga strip of spring metal, which is bent upon'itself to form two leaves or fingers 4 and 5, the
' former of which is fixed to the block 1, as
by the securing of a laterally bent flange 6 thereto, while the other one of such leaves is normally movable by its spring action into contact with the fixed contact part 2, which is disposed in suitable position for such purpose. Thc movable leaf or finger 5 is held.
in retracted or set position relative'to the contact part 2 by a band or ring 7, which encircles the free end portions of the leaves fl and 5 to prevent a relative outward springmg thereof, and is composed of wire or other suitable material, a part at least of which is of an easily fusible nature.
The contact parts 2 and 3 are in series through a wire 8 with an electric bell or other signal device 9 and a source of electr cal supply as a battery 10, the wire terminals being connected to theparts 2 and 3 by binding posts 11 or in any other suitable manner.
In the use of my improved signaling device a plurality of the units A are located at different points within a building as indicated in Fig. 3, with the movable contact part 5 of each unit held in spaced relation to its companion contact part 2 by a fusible member 7, as indicated in the drawings, or in any. other suitable manner. The units are held connected in circuit with a source of electrical supply 10 and an electrical signaling device 9, the latter of which is located within an adjoining building or at any suitable point where it may be desired to give an alarm. When a fire occurs in a building adjacent to any of the toiich-ofi units A the heat of the fire very quickly burns ofi the wire-0r fuse 7 thus permitting the contact part 5 to spring into contact with the part 2 and close the signal circuit to effect an energizing of the signal device 9 to give the alarm.
It is ap arent that I have provided a simple and e cient device for givin an alarm of fire as-soon as one starts within a building equipped with the touch-01f units, and that such units are inexpensive of construction, and can be easily and quickly installed.
I wish it understood that my invention is not limited to any specific construction or fixed relative to the fixed part and having the edge thereof adjacent to the fixed part bent laterally and extended at both ends ed my invention, what with one extension bent over the remaining portion of such bent edge and lying adjacent thereto and influenced to normally move outwardly therefrom into contact with the fixed part and a fusible member coacting with said extensions to retain the movableextension out of contact with said fixed part.
