Be it known that I, GUY ii-Hooves, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sherman, in the county of Grayson and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Recording Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to recording and indicating devices for grain mills and more particularly to certain improvements in devices of that character shown and described in my prior application for patent filed April lth, 1911, Serial Number 618,877.
The present invention object the provision of improved means for accurately recording and indicating the weight of a continuously flo 'ing stream of material and for indicating the number of pminds yn'oducing barrel of flour irresgecti\ o of the gradeof such material.
Another object of the invention is to provide improved means for mounting and. actuating the indicator arms whereby the weight of the flour and of. the feed arc simultaneously recorded.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a device of the which is of comparativel simple construction and which is so arranged and mounted that absolutely accurate results are assured.

These broad features of construction a re retained in 'the present application, wherein the specific improvement resides in the provision of means whereby the weight of the material passing through the machine is not only indicated but also permanently recorded.
Referring now more part .ularly to the" accompanying drawings 5 designates a suitable frame structure which is centrally di vided by a vertical wall (3. horizontal. beam 1' extends through this wall and is supported at its ends by the uprights S which are secured to the end. of the frame. To the beam 7 and upon each side of the wall (3, a pair of depending hanger rods 9 are rigidly secured. in the lower ends of. these rods a longitudinally disposed pivot shaft 10 is mounted. This shaft extends through a tubular hub or sleeve 11. To the sleeve 11 the coupling members 12 are secured. These members extend a t right angles to the pivot shaft 10 and are of T-shaped form. To the central depending extensions of said cou pling members the similar members 13 are connected, said latter members 1i roviding hearings or supports for the cylinder shaft 14. 0 one of the members 12, a. rod 15 is connected and the other of said members carries an attaching plate 16 which is rigidly bolted or otherwise secured to the case 0 18 of the cylinder 17 which is rigidly fixed upon one end of the shaft 1%. To the rod 15 a counter-balancing weight 19 is secured, said weight normally equalizing the weight of the cylinder 17 so as to n'iaintain the rod 3 and the cylinder shaft in a hor ontal p no. The cylinder casing 18 is povided at its top with an upuardly extending tapered inlet neck 20 in which the lower end of a flexible conducting tube 2 is disposed. The upper end "of this tube is fixed to the top, of the frame 5 beneath the hopper into which the chute deposits the mate rial. The end of the rod 15 adjacent to the 7 weight 19 is connected to a suitable dash pot 24 which prevents any unsteady movement of the parts and absorbs all shock or jar thereto when the receiving cylinder returns to its normal position.
Upon the cylinder shaft it and between f the manner in i the members 13 a sprocket Wheel is secured, and this sprocketwheel is traversed by an endless chain 26 which passes around a similar sprocket on the drive shaft 27 which extends through the lower end of the frame structure.
It will be understood that the foregoing description of parts which relates to the mounting of the material receiving cylinder and the manner in which the same is balanced, is precisely the same upon each side of the central vertical wall 6 of the-frame, and that such arrangement may be still further multiplied if desired.
Particular attention is called to the fact that the point of connection of the power transmission chain 26 to the cylinder shaft is directly below the pivot shaft 10 whereby the cylinder and its case are supported.
I will now proceed with the description which an-accurate determination and record of the amount of material. passing through the machine and also the number of pounds to each barrel of flour milled, is obtained.
WVith the above objects in view, 1 provide the inwardly extending rods 28 which are secured to the rods 15. The rods 28 each carry a pair of vertically disposed bolts 29. To the upper end of one of these bolts the lower end of a connecting rod 30 is pivotally secured, the upper end of said connecting rod being pivote to the angular extension 32 formed on the lower end of an indicator arm 31. This arm is vertically disposed and is formed at the juncture of the extension 32 therewith, with a sleeve 33 which is rotatably disposed upon a bolt 34 which is threaded at one end in a bar 35 rigidly fixed upon the face of a vertically disposed plate 36. The upper end of the arm 31 is provided with a lead receiving tube 37, and to said arm one end of a leaf spring 38 is rigidly fixed, the free end of said spring being adapted to engage the stick of lead and normally hold the same in engagement with the surface of a chart indicated at 39 upon which the weight indications are recorded in the operation of the machine.
The vertically disposed substantially 'parallel rods 40 are pivotally connected at their lower ends to the other of the bolts 29 carried by the rods 28, said rods 40 extending above the top of the frame 5 upon opposite sides of the vertical wall 6 thereof. The upper ends of these rods are guided in the eyes 42 which are formed upon 'the upper ends of the vertical bars 41, said bars being rigidly fixed at their lower ends to the horizontal bar 35. It will be observed that the rear face of the bar 35 is spacedfrom the face of the plate 36 so as to permit of the passage of the chart paper therebetween,

preferably, arranged upon a roll indicated at 43 and mounted in the rear of the plate 36. The upper end of the plate 39 is slightly curved as shown at 39 so as to allow the paper to pass smoothly thereover and obviate liability of tearing the same.
The upper ends of the rods 40 are angularly disposed as indicated at 40 and threaded to receive the nuts 44. To these threaded ends of said. rods the sections 45 of a jointed marker are connected, said sections being pivotally connected to the pairs of similar sections 46 which are adjustably connected by the short rods 47. The inner elements 46 of each pair are also pivotally connected, and in said ends and concentric to the pivot a stick of lead is arranged. leaf spring 48 is secured to one of the elements of the marker and bears at its free end against the lead to hold the same in contact with the surface of the chart as described in arms 31.
In order to continuously move the paper chart in the passage of the material through the machine, I provide the rollers 49 which are rotatably mounted in the supporting legs or standards 50 upon which the plate 36 is mounted. To one of the roller shafts, a worm gear 51 is secured, and said gear meshes with the teeth of a worm 52 formed upon a shaft 53 which is mounted in suit able bearings arranged on the frame 5.

The other ends of the rollers are provided with the intermeshing pinions 56 so that said rollers are at all times positively rotated at the same speed.
In the use of my improved mechanism,

As power is imparted to the cylinder shaft with the drive shaft, the wheat or other grain products is admitted to the hopper 22 from whence it is deposited through the conveying tube 21 into the peripheral grooves or pockets 17 which are provided in the receiving cylinder 17.
