To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MARY E. Boron, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alexander, in the county of McKenzie and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dish-Receptacles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanyin drawings.

Ifly invention relates to new and useful improvements in the art of kitchen and table articles and more particularly to a dish rinsing and drying device, and my object is to provide a device within which dishes, knives, forks, spoons and the like may be rinsed and upon which said articles may be dried.

A further object of the invention resides in providing a device which may be readily introduced within a dishpan in order that the articles carrled within said device may be rinsed, and a still further object resides in providing means for supporting the device after removing from the dishpan so that the articles carried thereon may be dried.

A still further object of the invention resides in providing a device composed entirely of wire, the same being provided with wire hoops, with wire sides and bottom, which wires are interwoven and soldered at convenient points to gi\ e the device strength and rigidity, and a further object resides in forming the device into a combined dislirinsing basket or the like and dish-drying tray therefor.

Another object of the invention resides in providing a device which is extremely simple and durable in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and one which is very efficient and useful in operation.

lVith these and other objects in View, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claims.

In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, Figure 1 is a top plan View of the device. Fig. .2 is a vertical section therethrough as seen on line '2- Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary section through the device. showing the particular arrangement of wires. and, Fig. 4 is a fragmentary perspective view showing a slightly modified form of supporting member for the device.

In carrying out my invention, I shall refer to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which 1 and 2 indicate, respectively, the lower and upper hoops of a wire basket, the lower hoop being of smaller diameter than the upper and provided with a plurality of interwoven wires 3, the ends of which are bent into engagement with said hoop l and soldered for rigidity, and forming the sides of the basket between the upper and lower hoops thereof, are the interwoven substantially vertical and horizontal wires 5 and 4, the vertical wires being bent at their lower ends around the hoop l and also soldered thereto, while the upper ends of the same are extended over the upper hoop 2 and project radially and horizontally therefrom. The interwoven wires 3 with the hoop 1, form a bottom for the basket, while the interwoven wires 5 and 4 form sides for the same, it being understood that this basket will permit of dishes, knives and forks and the like being rinsed therein while the device is placed within a dish-pan, and I have provided for the drying of the articles rinsed within this basket by forming a tray thereon. To this end, I provide an additional hoop 6 which is of a larger diameter than the hoop 2 and disposed on the same horizontal plane therewith, said hoop 6 receiving in engagement therewith, the wires 5 which are extended over the hoop 2, said extensions 5 of the wires continuing upwardly from the hoop 6, to be bent in engagement and soldered with an additional hoop 8 which is of a larger diameter than the hoop 6 and disposed some distance thereabove.

From this construction. it will be seen that the basket formed by the lower and

1 and 2, respectively, the bottom wires 3 and the side wires 4. and 5 will permit of the articles being rinsed therein while said basket is disposed within the dish-pan or the like. and that portion of the same formed by the horizontal and upward tXi(ll\lHll\' ot' the wires 5 and the lower and upper hoops (t and 8 will permit of the articles being placed thereon after being rinsed. in order to dry. To this extent, this latter portion of the device forms a drying tray, and in order to prevent articles placed thereon from passing to the basket I provide a fender or the like which comprises a hoop member 9 of a diameter substantially the same as the hoop 2, which isflsupported immediately above said hoop 2 by means of the supporting wires 10, said latter wires being bent into engagement with the hoop 9 at their upper ends, while the lower portions of the same are soldered or otherwise secured to the hoop 2.

As stated above, this device may be introduced in a dish-pan or other receptacle so that the water therein may be used for the rinsing of the articles carried within the basket ortion of the device, and in order to provide a support-ing means for the device while in the referred to position and also to support the device after being removed from the dish-pan, I provide a hoop or base member 11, with which are engagedatregular intervals therearound, a plurality of arms 12, said arms being bent around said hoop 11 to form a pivotal connection therewith. The upper end of each arm 12 is bent and curved lnwardly to form a substantial hook portion 13, which hook portions of said arms 12 are adapted to receive in engagement therewith, the upper hoop 8 of the drying tray, and in order to retain these arms 12 in a substantially vertical position so as to position the device above the base hoop 11 and prevent any wabbling of the device when set up, I ing braces 14, one 0 which is pivotally mounted to each of the arms 12 ad acent its lower end. These braces 14 are adapted to be disposed in their extended positions by means of coil spring members 15 which are engaged, respectively, with the arms 12 and braces 14, but in order to retain said braces against the arms 12 when the device is not in use, I provide the ring members 16 loosely disposed on the arms 12 which may be drawn over the braces 14 to retain the same against the arms 12. Thus, the device for rmsing and drying the dishes and other articles, may be readily supported above the dishpan so that portions of the basket may be disposed thercwithin and may also be supported beyond the dish-pan after the rinsing has been completed, by merely setting up the supporting device. While this supporting device, as described, is the essential form of the device, I have also provided a modified form which comprises a base hoop 11' to which is secured the lower ends of a plurality of supporting arms 12, the lower ends of said arms 12' being bent in engagement with the hoop 11 and soldered thereto, while the upper ends of the same are bent in enagement and soldered with a hoop 8', said 00p 8 representing the upper hoop of the drymg tray of the device. In order that the device may be carried from place to place and handled quite readily, the handle members 17 are provided which are carried on the upper hoop 8 at diametrically opposite points thereon. While such handle members are not shown in the modified form, it will be understood that the same are also provided, and in fact, all matter other than the supporting device, as shown in the preferred form, is also provided in this modified form, it being understood that the modification is merely as 'regards the siipportin arms.

In practice, when 1t is-desired to use the preferred form of my invention, the arms 12 of the supporting members are brought to a substantially vertical position and the upper hoop 8 engaged with the hoop portions 13 of said arms, whereupon the bases 14 on the arms 12 are allowed to be disposed to their extended positions thereby supporting the arms in their vertical positions when the braces are positioned on a support. The vain the basket portion of the device and the complete device disposed over a dish-pan or other receptaclecontaining water, so that the base hoop 11 encircles the receptacle whilethe basket portion of the device is artially introduced therewithin. It will e understood that the braces resting on the support upon which the base hoop 11 is mounted, will rigidly support the arms 12, which will permit the device proper to be properly carried thereon, and the articles within the basket may then be thoroughly rinsed, and as the rinsing of each is completed, said articles are placed on the tray of the device. In this connection, I prefer to use various cloths which are to be disposed on the wires 5 forming the base or flooring of the tray, so that the drops of water dripping from the articles will pass to these cloths to be absorbed thereby. When all the articles have been rinsed and placed upon the tray, the complete device may be lifted from its position over the receptacle and supported in any other place, whatsoever, to allow the articles to completely dry: in their positions onthe tray. As stated, the operation of this device, as described, has connection with the preferred form, that is the knockdown supporting means for the device, but it will be understood that in the modified form wherein the supporting means is formed rigid with the ba et and tray portion of the device, the operation will be the same as in the other form except for the fact that there will be no necesslty for the setting up of the supporting means. In the preferred form, after the dishes and other articles have been 'thoro'u hly dried by being allowed to stand upon t e tray, the same ma be removed therefrom to their properp aces, and the rious articles to be rinsed may then be placed device knocked down and placed away for further use. In the folding of the device, it will be seen that after the basket and tray portion of the device has been removed from the supporting device, the braces 14 may be brought to their contracted positions against the arms 12, whereupon said arms may be folded against the hoop 11 and with the other portion of the device, compactly placed away for further use.

From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have provided a simple, durable, inexpensive and eflicient means for carrying out the object of the invention, and while I have particularly described the elements most well adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention.

What I claim is 1. A rinsing and dryin device, comprising a receptacle formed 0 wire, a tray port1on formed at the upper end thereof, and asupporting means for the device.

2. A rinsing and drying device, comprising a receptacle formed of wire, a tray formed on the upper portion of said receptacle, and supporting means for the device, said supporting means so disposing the device as to position the lower portion of the receptacle above the base portion of the supporting means.

3. A device of the class described, comprising a wire receptacle, a tray portion also formed of wire and surrounding the upper portion of said receptacle, and a supporting means for the device comprising a base portion, and arms carried thereon engaging said tray, said supporting means so disposing the device as to position the lower portion of the receptacle above the base portion of the supporting means.

4. A device of the class described, comprising a receptacle formed of wire, a tray portion formed at the upper end thereof and surrounding the same, certain of the wires forming the sides of said receptacle being continued to form the base portion and sides of said tray, a supporting means comprising a hoop, and arms carried thereon and engaged with the upper portion of the tray, said supporting means so positioning the device as to position the lower portion of the device above the base portion of the supporting means.

5. A device of the class described, comprising a wire receptacle, a tray also formed of Wire and surrounding the upper portion of the receptacle, asupporting means for the device comprising a base hoop, arms pivotally carried thereon, the upper ends of said arms being adapted for engagement with the upper portion of said tray, and means to support said arms in their uprlght positions.
