Description

' RICHARD BUSH, :0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORKQ Letters Patent No. 102,768, dated May 10,-1870.
riesaovemtena'- m Roses? Peters.
The Schedule referred to in th'ee Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whom 'it may concern.:
Be it known that I, RIcHAs'D BUSH, of the city of Brooklyn, Kings county, New York, have invented an Improvement in Gentrit'ugal Pumps; and the following is declared to be a correct description thereof.
Geutrifugal pumps have leretofore been made with `'radial bnckets upon a c one that revolves withirra case,
the water. being introduced at the apcx o f the cone, and centrally with the shaft, and thrown off by the oentrifugal action into a eircular delivery-passage.
I have discovered that tleeentrifugal action is more efi'eetire in-drawing up the water and discharging it when tlexsuetion-pipe is placed as a tangent to the .smaller portion of the cone of buekets, so that said pipe is at right angles, or nearly so,, to the buckets as `t1ey come around succeSSiveIy; and I construct the induction or emotion-pipe so that it may be placed to stand at any desired angle; relatively to the dischargepipe, thereby rendering the'use of bends in the .pipe snperfluons under most circumstances. .I also' make tle'cone of buckets with a coucare snri'ace 'pon 'the cone at the base of the buokets, so as' to giremore. space for the' reception of the` water nearthomddle bearings, and carries at one end the e'oniealfwheel of buckets, said wheel having the 'buckets'l :placed radially, as shown by dotted lines in fig. 1..
' The surface ofthe cone c,to wh'. 11/ tile bncletsb I are connected, is not a' straight line, bnt carved dow'uf ward ate, soas tomake the buckets wider at this point te give an; increased hold upon the water."
.The edges of the buckctsi bare. straight, or nearly A The case containing the centrn'ngal wnceiis made of the two part-s f and g, bolted together, and said case is Imade with awater-way, h, increasing in, size and terminating in the discharge-pipe k.
The side of the case f is left open, at the middle port-ion, and'formed with an anul'dar recess that receives the flange i of the induction-chambenl, and *ni is 'the induction .or suction-pipe that enters one side of said chamber l, so asytobe in a tangential position to the central portion of the cone of b'ckets, 'so that' they will activith direotness and eliicienoyin drawing the wateintothewhe'el of bu ckets. v
By t-he construct-ion aforesai'd, the pipen' and'chain' ber l'can be applied to the case f, so that the .saidpipe' m may lead oif inth' most direct marinel' to theplace from which the-water is to be drawn.
The fiange i, in the recess of the ease f, allows the parts to be turned around, and, when in position, lthe dange i is to be securedlo .the case f by elamps 0'0; or other suitable means.
' I claim asmy invention- ,1. The induction pipe 'm, plao`ed in a tangential po 'sition to thehueket-sat their inner. endsfilld combina vtion with-the centrii'ugal wheel of bnckets, eascs,f and g, and water-way l,`substan tially1as specified.
'2. The circnlar fiange'z'aijonndthe'induction waterchambert the induotion--pipel m, connected vtosaid chamber, the centrifugal wheel of buokets, l c, and the case f, arranged substantiallyfias' and for- .the purposes speeified.. 3. Theconicalwheel c of a centrit'ugal; pnmp, made as a curve or concave atl the base of. the buckets'b, and
'with the outer edges of the 'bnekets staight,'in .oom-- bink tian-with the iuclosin'g-case and water-ways, sub-1 f stantially'asfand for the'purposes specified. Signed by ine-this 15th day' of' March, A., i). 1870; vliIoHARD BUSH.
