Specification of Letterslatent.
This invention relates to improvements in transparent signs, and the main object is to produce an article of this character wherein the sign characters are printed upon one side of a sheet of embossed transparent pa-.
per with an offset of the same characters upon the reverse side.
The invention also relates to a sign of this character printed withink treated so that it will take an adhesive substance which when moistened will cause the sign to adhere to the surface of glass without the ink Referring tothe drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a sign arranged according to my invention; and Fig. 2 is a section upon the line 22 of Fig. 1.
In carrying out the invention-"I employ a sheet 1 of embossedpaper which is provided with an uneven surface and upon the 7 front side of this paper I provide a coat-' ing 2-which will indicate the sign characters, and this coating is applied by printing. I also provide a coating 3 on the re- .A coating 4: of adhesive material is then applied over the coating 2 to render the sign capable of being applied to glass or other similar places. The use of. an adhesive substance'with the ink is practical in no sign except one employing embossed paper, in that after the sign is moistened and placed upon a surface it has no tendency'toward shrinkage and the raised portions' of the embossed paper prevent the-adhesive substance from showing and producing a mottled efiect as is always the case when plain paper isused.
There is a great advantage in: a sign of Patented May 28,1912.

this character when made onembossed paper, inasmuch as'it breaks up' the deadappearance of the background and brings out the color more effectively. I The adhesive feature renders the sign practical in that it may be applied to any surface without fur 'ther gumming or without other attaching means. p
