Description
tinted mes WILLIAM HENRY BLEASDALE, OF OHAGRIN FALLS, OHIO,`
Letters Patent No. 102,754, cla-ted May 10, 1870.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the: same.
I, WILLIAM HENRY BLEASDALE, ot Chagrin Falls, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented' certain Improvements in Crimping-Attachments to Paper-lilachines, of which the following'is a specification.
The nat-ure of this invention relates to a Adevice to he attached to a paper-making machine for crimping the end of the paper just a-fterasheet has been cut on, the object being to crimp or crease the paper used in making paper bags, so that the mouths of the bags may be more easily gathered together for tying.
Figure 1 is a front view.
Figure 2 is a cross-section.
In the drawing- A represents a frame, which may be a part of a papenmaking machine, in which is arranged the device for crimping.
B is a cylinder, or rather part ot' a cylinder, as a greater portion of the sides may be left open.
On one side of said cylinder is a4 knife, C, placed slightly diagonally, which, working in conjunctionwith the blade D, cuts the paper into sheetsv once in each revolution of the cylinder.
This part of the machine I do not lay any claim to as new, but the following is a description of niy invention.
In the aforesaid cylinder B, I place a bar, E, just above ythe knife C, or following it, made of wood or other suitable material, having on its outer surface a seriesof ribs running crosswise or in a line with the circumference of the said cylinder. This bar may be of any suitable width to makethe creases in the paper as long as desirable. To the front side of the frame is. placed a roller, F, having ribs around it which correspond to, and which mesh with, those on the Abar E.
ficintlyfar to permit the knife to pass, when the" springs force it back again, when thel roller and bar,
again coming in contact, crimps the end of thepapei` as it comes from the machine, alternately crimping and cutting 01T the sheets, these `sheets being ready to'be made np into bags, 'the mouth being crimped.
By the use of this machine the paper is ready crimped, thus obviating the labor and time. necessary to prepare the same after the bags are made up.
I claim the combination and arrangement of the ribbed bar E and ribbed roller F, with a paper-making machine, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
` WILLIAM HENRY BLEASDALE.
