TocZZ whom t may concern Be itknown that I, CHARLES MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salem, in the county of Columbiana and knives of the cutter head can be more readily' adjusted upon the cutter head proper to and from the shear plate. by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure head and shear plate. In the accompanying drawing, 1 represents the shaft, which shaft is journaled in bearings common to feed cutters and to which shaft power is applied to rotate the shaft together with the different parts attached thereto. Upon the shaft 1 are securely mounted the spiders or end heads, which end heads, are made up of the hubs 3 and the arms or spokes 4, said arms or spokes being provided with the radial eX- tensions or continuations 5 and the forward extending flanges 6. The outer surfaces of which are concaved as illustrated in the drawings. Upon the flanges 6 are located the knife holding blocks 7, the inner surfaces of which are conveXed, the convexity corresponding with the curvature of the outer faces'of the arms 6. The arms 6 are each provided with the elongated slots 8, through which elongated slots are located the knife clamping bolts 9, said knife clamping bolts also extend through the blocks 7 and the knives 10, the clamping bolts 9 being so attached to the knives 10 that there can be no relative movement as between said knives and the clamping bolt.` The radial ,extensions 5 are provided with screw threaded F. It will be understood that in feed cutters it requires considerable force to thrust the `knives through the material designedto be cut and hence it is of importance to prevent any backward lor sliding` movement of the knives 10 and the heads 7, which backward movement islargely prevented by means of the bolts 12. For the purpose of holding the knives 10 in proper relationship with reference to the heads 7, said heads are provided with the flanges 13 against which `flanges the knivesk 10 abut at ornear the ends.
When it is desired to adjust the cutting of the knives 10 to or from the shear plate 14, the nuts 15 are rotated in the direction to bolts 12 are free to move in the elongated slots 8, at which time the knives 10 and their holding blocks 7 can be moved in either direction upon the flanges 6, which adjustment is made by rotating the bolts 12 and crowding the blocks .7 forward or by moving the boltsr 12 backward and setting the backs of the blocks 7 against the ends of the After the proper' adjustment has beenmade with reference to the knives 10 and shear plate 14 the bolts 12 are locked loosen the clamped parts so that the against accidental rotation by means of the t jam-nuts 16.

Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a feed cutter a shaft, knifecarrying heads spaced from each other and secured to said shaft and rotated therewith, said heads consisting of hubs, spokes, said spokes provided with forward extended flanges, radial extensions located at the rear of the forward extending flanges and provided with screw threaded bolts, means for locking the screw threaded bolts against accidental rotation, knife holding heads provided with flanges foams? and tapered apertures, knives secured to said knife holding heads and the flanges upon the heads adapted to abut against the backs of the knives and the screw threaded bolts adapted to abut against the backs of the knife-holding` heads, screw threaded bolts carried by the extensions, said extensions provided with outer concaved faces and the knife holding block provided with convexed faces adapted to fit the concaved faces of the extensions, clamping bolts located through the knives and forward extending flanges and through the tapered apertures in the knife holding heads thereby providing means for a rocking movement of the knife holding heads, substantially as and for the purpose specied.
