provements in Crushing-Mills, of which the 1 following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. This invention-relates to that class of ring roll crushingmills,.such for exampleas are shown in U- S. Patents Nos. 906,829 and 995,580, and the present invention relates to certain improvements which. will provide a mill of the class referred to which may be made atm-uch lesscostthan is involved in Y the building of the mills shown by said patents. In other words, the present invent-ion provides a mill, having a rotating anvil ring with which acrushing roll held yieldingly' againstthe'inner surfaceof said ring coopcrates, which isof simple design, so that it 3 may be made at comparatively little cost and thus the present improvedmill s is not required, where cost-is a primary consideration,land where ready access to the adapted for purposes where a large capacity crushing members is important.

The bolt 29 is pro vided at-its outer end with a hole or eye with the said bolt. 'The yoke or latch 33 is adapted to overlap or embrace the upper end of the lever 22 andthus serves as a latch for the said lever. Tapped in the yoke or latch 33 is .an adjusting screw 34 which abuts against the upper end of the lever 22' so as to securethe yoke or latch33 in place,- and which adjusting screw may be loosened through which passes a pinf32, and'which pinpivotally connects a yoke or latch 33 when the said yoke or latch is to be released.
The stressor initial compression of the spring or springs 28 may 'be regulated or adjusted. by means of a nut 35 on the final. stress or pressure of the said-spring or springs onthe crushing roll may be regu-g lated or adjusted by the screw 34. It will thus be understood that the yoke or latch 33, with its adjusting screw 34, serves as a means for communicating the stress of the spring or springs 28 to the lever 22, and also serves, when engaged with said lever, as a latch for holding the swinging end head or door 19 closed when the mill is running. As an additional means for thus holding the swinging head or door closed said'head or door is providedat its. side opposite its hinge point with a lug 36 which is arranged to be engaged by a swinging yoke or latch 37. pivoted on the casing part 18 and also provided with an adjusting screw 38, which may be tightened against the said lug 36 to assist the swinging yoke or latch 33 in holding the end head or door 19 tightly closed.
The material to be crushed is fed from a hopper mounted on the casing part 18 to the anvil ring 16 through the medium of a feed spout 41 which is carried by the swinging end head or door 19, so that when the said end head or door 19 is to be opened it will be swung outward beneath the. said hopper carrying the feed spout with it. The

The outward movement of the bolt 44 is limited, so as to be just suflicient to lift the roll 25 clear of the anvil ring, by the adjustable nut 45 on said bolt, and the inward movement of said bolt is limited by the closing together of the coils of the said spring, and is ample to prevent any interference (see Fig. 5). The endwise thrust of the shaft 14 is taken by a thrust bearing housed in a casing 46, and an adjusting screw 47 cooperates with the said thrust bearing in such a manner as to permit longitudinal adjustment of the said shaft for the purpose of bringing the anvil ring 16 carried thereby into any desired relation with the cooperating crushing roll 25.
The present improved crushing mill is similar in its operation to the crushing mills of the patents hereinbefore referred to. The material to be crushed passes from'the hopper 10 through the feed spout 41 to the anvil ring against the inner face of which it' is held by centrifugal action as the said ring rotates, and is reduced by the cod erative action of the crushing roll 25 an the anvil ring. When it is desired to obtain access to the chamber of the mill, for any purpose, the screws 34 and 38 are loosened, and the latches or yokes 33 and 37 may then be disengaged respectively from the lever 2-2 and the holding lug 36 on the swinging end head or door 19, and the latter will then be free to-be swung aside on the hinge bolt 21, thereby opening the chamber of the mill.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that the present improvement provides a ring-roll crushing-mill which is of simple construction, so that it may be manufactured atcomparatively little cost, and is thus particularly well adapted for use where a large output is not required, where the cost of the mill is a primary consideration, and where quick and ready access to the crushing parts is more than usually important, for example, where different products are wanted, from time to time, and cleaning out for the changed product is required.
By mounting the spring or springs 28, or other elastic means acting on the crushing roll 25, on the fixed casing 18, instead of on the end head, as in the machines of the patents hereinbefore referred to, simplicity of construction is secured, and the said spring or springs are adapted to serve, in addition to thei'r'former function, to assist in holding the end head or door closed.
Having thus described-my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a crushing mill, the combination with a fixed casing, of a rotating anvil ring within the said casing, a swinging end head, a lever pivotally mounted on said head, a crushing roll coiiperating with said ring and supported from said lever, a' spring or springs supported on said casing, and-means whereby the stress of the said spring or springs may be communicated to the said lever.
2. In a crushing mill, the combination with a fixed casing, of a rotating anvil rin within the said casing, a swinging end hea a lever pivotally mounted on said head, a-
erushing roll coiiperating with said ring and supported from said lever, a spring or springs supported on said casing, means whereby the stress of the said spring or springs may be communicated to the said lever, said means comprising a bolt supported on said casing, and a yoke or latch pivotally connected with the said bolt and adapted to embrace the free end of said lever so as to transmit: the pressure of said spring or springs thereto.
3. In a crushing mill, the combination with a fixed casing, of a rotating anvil ring 3 within the said casing, a swinging end hea portedon said casing, a yoke vor latch pivota lever pivotally mounted on said head, a crushing roll cotiperating with. said ring and supported from said lever, a spring or springs supported on said casing, means whereby the stress of the said-spring or springs may be communicated to the said lever, said means comprising .1 bolt supally connected with the said bolt and adapted to embrace the free endof said lever so as to transmit the pressure of said spring or springs thereto, and a screw mounted on said oke or latch and arranged to engage said ever.
