Description
W. M. LANHAM. Parallel Cultivator. No. 102,687. Patented May 3,1870.

UNITED [STATES PATENT QFFICEQ WILLIAM M. LANHAM, OF NOBLESVILLE, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 102,687, dated May 3, 1870.
usefulImprovements in Flows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a gang-plow and the manner of connecting the same; and also in the construction and arrangement of fenders for the same, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I. will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective View of the plow, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged section of a portion of the plow-beam.
A A represent the two plows, made in any of the known and usual Ways. At the front ends of the plow-beams is attached the doubletree B, which is curved upward in the center, as shown. The plow-beams are further connected by means of a coupling-rod, O, the ends of which are pivoted in swivel-pins D, inserted in the plow-beams,giving two distinct motions to the coupling-rod.
To the uprights or she ths of the plows A A are secured crooked rods E E,which are curved outward, forward, and upward, as shown. Upon these rods is placed a connecting-bar, G, provided with two or more holes at each end, through which the ends of therods E,E are passed. By changing the said rods in the different holes in the bar G, and also by changing in the same manner the coupling-rod O, the distance between the plows is readily regulated.
On the side of the plow-beams are attached the fenders H, made in the shape of a birds wing, and so arranged as to work backward and forward as a hinge. It is provided with two rows of holes, by means of which the same are moved forward or backward, up or down, in order to regulate the fender and place it in anyrcondition desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with the double plow A, connected by the whiffletrec B, the curved rods E E, bar G, and bar (J, connected to the plows A A by the vertical swivel-bolts D D, all substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 4th day of January, 1870.
WILLIAM M. LANHAM.
