LOCOMOTIVE-SUPERHEATER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed July 21, 1911. Serial No. 639,748.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HAROLD L. HENSZEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented .certain new and useful Improvements in Locomotive-Superheaters, of'which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in locomotive superheaters and has for its leading object the provisionof an improved super-heater for the steam generated in the locomotive which will serve to super-heat the said steam. and will continue the super- 15 heating action until the steam has almost reachedthe engine cylinder, whereby said steam will enter the cylinder in its hottest and driest state, thus possessinga maximum amount of-energy.
A further object of my invention is the provision of a superheater receiving the steam from the steam dome of the locomotive and conducting said steam into the fire space of the boiler, whereby the heat in said fire space will come more directly against the steam than it does against the water from which the steam is originally generated, and in this manner the steam will be superheated by the same heat that it has originally generated, and I will thusbe able by the use of my improved superheater to furnish hotter steam and thus produce more energy from the combustionof the same amount of fuel than is possible without the use of my improved superheater.
Other objects and advantages of my improved superheater will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and it will be understood that I may make any mo'difications in the specific structure shown and described within the scope of my claims j without departing from or exceeding the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings, in which similar characters of reference are employed to denote corresponding parts in the several views, the numeral 1 designates the main casing of the boiler having the steam dome 2 and the fire box portion 3, while mounted within the casing 1 are the heads 4 and 5 to which are secured the connecting fire tubes 6. a water space 7 being provided above the fire box and surrounding the same by the inner casmg 8 lnto which the flanges 9 and 10 of the Figs. 2, 3, and 4, I have shown secured within the fire box chamber the steam ring 15 into which the end 13 of the pipe 11 projects, said ring having secured thereto the inwardly extending cone shaped spark deflector screen 16 and having formed in its inner face the apertures or sockets 17 normally closed by the plugs 18, while formed in the opposite face of the ring are a second set of apertures in which are secured the steam conducting pipes 19 which pass along through the fire tubes 6, the .steam from the pipe 11 thus passing into the hollow space 20 of the steam ring 15 and outward from the ring through the steam tubes 19. Said tubes 19 project from the outer end of the" fire tube 6 into the smoke chamber 21 toward the outer portion of which is secured the second steam ring 22 having the steam space 23 which receives the steam from the tube 19, said ring being rovided with a.
