PRIMING DEVICE.

Be it known that I. JOSEPH L. FISCHER, a i
citizen of the United States, residing at Ap- 'plet-on, in the countyof Outagamie and State of llvisconsiii, have invented certain new and yuseful Improvements in Priining Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in priming devices for automobiles and has for its leading object the provision of an iniproved deviceby the use of which a suiiicient amount of gasolene to opening the bonnet to turn the pet-cockus of the various priming cups. v The further object of my invention is the a predetermined quantity of gasolene may be simultaneously admitted to the various cylinders of the engine without the lnecesseparately into each priming cup. Another object of the invention is the provision of an improved device whereby the'cylinders of an automobile enginemay be primed without any appreciable loss in the amount of compression in the cylinders and consequently which will enable the chau eur to start the machine on spark without the necessity of dismounting to crank the engine.
Other objects and advantages of my iinproved priming device will be apparent by reference to the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and .it will be understood that I may make any modifications in the specific structure shown and described within the scope of my claims without departing from or exceeding the spirit of my invention.

Each of the cylinders l of. the engine has rising therefrom the customary nipple 6 flow therethrough the pet-cock 7 having the controlling handle or lever S secured to the outwardly projecting eiid thereof. Secured to the upper end of the nipple G above, the pet-cock 7 is a priming cup 9, as is usual in automobile construction, said priming cu being intendedto receivethe priming fluid to facilitate the starting of the engine.

To' prevent the gasolene from the pipes 10 from vflood-ing the priming cups and running over the engine where there is, danger of its ignition, I preferably close the primcaps13 having upstanding annular flanges 14 receiving the ends of the pipes 10 and making an air tight joint with said pipes and with the upper edges of the priming cup. This construction provides a. double advantage,. in that it both prevents spilling of the gasolene and also prevents escape of pressure from the cylinders when the pet-cocks are opened.
In the use of my invention, I connect the various levers 12 by the rod .l5 terminating in a-handle 1 a pull on said gasolene to How from the tank 4 into the priming cups. After this flow has Qccui'red, I then close the valves 11 and open the pet-cocks by drawing on the handle 17 of the'rod 18 which is secured' to the ends of the controlling levers 8 of the pet-cocks. From the foregoing descrlption taken in connection with the accompanying drawings the construction'and use of.my improved automobile priming device Will be readily understood, and it VWill be seen that I have provided an extremely satisfactory device for supplying a small quantity of gasolene to the cylinders of an automobile engine Without the necessityof opening the a pipe leading therefrom, branch plpesleadl ing from said pipe' to the various priming cups, valves for controlling the branch pipes independent means for operating the various valves simultaneously.
