The casketincludes, as usual, a cover adapted to be hermetically sealed which' is firmly held in place by'an adjustable sur-- f' roundingv band peculiarly adapted vfor the purpose; said .band ,being carried byf the casket in cooperation with a hinged portion i-nto which the reinforcing strap is formed.

With these Vand other objects in view, thisy invention consists inthe combination, construction, and arrangement of parts, all as 'hereinatter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying draw-v ings, wherein Figure l is a perspective view of a coffin embodying the present invention; Fig. 2 is a transverse section; Fig. 3' is a longitudinalV section; Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the reinforcing member; and Fig. 5 is a fragmen- 'tary perspective of the band.
