Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ROBERT P. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Barrel-Partitions, of which the following is a specification.

My invention is designed to provide improved means for dividing barrels into several compartments, primarily for the purpose of conveniently filling such barrels with different kinds of candy or other substances and keeping the same separate.

The characteristic features of my invention are fully disclosed in the following.description and the accompanying drawings in illustration thereof.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a barrel having my improved means applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the assembled partitions with the barrel removed there from; Fig. 3 is a plan View of a disk used to form a horizontal partition in the upright barrel; Figs. 4 and 5 represent complementary elements used to form vertical partitions in the upright barrel; and Figs. 6 and 7 represent a modified form of such complementary elements.

As illustrated in the drawings, the barrel 1, increasing in diameter from the ends to the middle thereof, is separated into several compartments by the end disks 2 and the larger internal disk 2 which are parallel to the barrel heads 1', and the

2 and 2 by which the respective pairs of intersecting partitions are separated. But it will be understood that while three disks and four pairs of intersecting partitions are shown, these may be varied in number as required by the desired number of compartments. The disks, which are larger than the barrel mouth and generally made of paper board too heavy to be conveniently sprung so as to pass therethrough, are provided with diametrical scores 2, as in the case of the disk 2 illustrated in Fig. 3, so that they can be folded or bent on the score line and thus passed through the mouth of the barrel. The intersecting partitions, which are. preferably made of heavy paper board, are respectively provided with the end wings 3 adapted to fold on the score lines 3 and the complementary cuts 3', as in the case of the

partitions

3 and 3 illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5. As these wings can be folded upon the bodies of the respective partitions, which have approximately the length of the shortest diameter of the barrel section occupied thereby, such partitions can be adjusted to their proper positions in the desired axial planes of the barrel and their wings then brought into the planes of the respective partitions and into engagement with the barrel, whereby the partitions are held in their proper positions As illustrated in Figs. 6 and 7 the end Wings 3, which fold on the score lines 3 are triangular in form, as distinguished from the truncated wings 3, but in each case the outer edges of the wings are de signed to fit or approximately coincide with the lines of the barrel which they engage.

It will be understood that by means of partitions of this character tiers of compartments can be formed and filled in succession until the barrel has been completely partitioned and filled.

Having described my invention, I claim:

1. The combination with a barrel increasing in diameter from the ends to the center, of intersecting partitions having folding wings on the ends thereof adapted for engaging the barrel and folding disks disposed in said barrel transversely to said partitions.

2. The combination with a barrel increasing in diameter from the ends to the center, of a folding disk fitted within said barrel transversely to the axis thereof and two pairs of intersecting partitions respectively provided with centrally disposed transverse slots whereby one engages the other, said pairs of partitions being separated by and disposed at right angles to said disk and each of said intersecting partitions having a folding end wing thereon.
