To all whom "it may concern;
BUsoH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fairmont, county of Marion, State of West Vir 'nia, have invented certain new and usefu Improvements in Hot-Water or Steam Heaters, of which the following is a s ecification, reference being had therein to t e accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in heaters for hot water circulating systems, or for generating 1 steam for steam heating systems, the object being to provide a heater which is especially" gplnlstructed for the use of natural gas as a Another object of the invention is to vide a heater which is formed of a plura ity of sections so united that the capacity of the heater can be increased or decreased by adding or removing sections.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a water section with corrugated side walls forming a plurality of staggered arranged oval shaped projectlons whic decrease in size from the bottom upwardly in order to decrease the radiating surface of the heating units from the point of admission of thewater to be heated to the point of discharge.
A further object of the invention -is to provide the water sections exactly alike in order to allow the projections to register with each other when the sections are assembled, forming zigzag passa s for the heat units so that the heat will e absorbed by the water within the sections.
Another object of the invention is to provide a header for connecting the supply and discharge pipes to the respective sections which is so constructed that an additional header can be readily connected thereto when the size of the heater is increased by adding other sections.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.

In the drawings, 1 indicates a heater which is formed of a plurality of water sections 2, each section being mounted upon a base section 3 and in the drawings, I have shown a heater formed of four water sections having a corresponding number of base sections, but it is of'course understood that the heater can be formed of one or more water sections- Arranged on the top of the water sections 2 is a smoke box 4 formed of a corresponding number of sections bolted together and the two central sections have semi-circular flan s 5 forming a collar to which a pipe is a apted tobe connected leading to a suitable flue, not shown, for conveying the smoke from the heater to the open air. The base sections are also bolted toether and are formed hollow, as clearly s own, each section being rovided with an opening 6 and a funnels aped air pipe 7 at its front end into which extends a gas pipe 8 leading from .a valve casing 9 to which is connected a supply pipe 10.
The sections 2 are, formed exactl alike and a description of one will be suiticlent for all, each section comprising a rectangular hollow body having its side walls corrugated to form a plurality of staggered oval shaped projections 11 which decrease in size from the-bottom upwardly in order .to decrease the radiating surface of the heat units,'as the water within said members becomes heated.
Each of the water sections 2 is provided with an inlet .boss 12 and an outlet boss 13 which are connected to headers 14: and 15 by push nipples 16 of the ordinary construction, said headers having supply and through the push nipples 16 into the lower ends of the water sections 2 is subjected to the greatest amount of heat at the entrance and passes upwardly in a thin column in order that it may be quickly heated when priming through the sections. The corrugations or projections terminate short of the front and rear edges of the sections forming a water space the full width of each section in order to allow a downward circulation of the water. The sections are arranged against each other in such a manner that the projections register as clearly shown in Fig. l and the meeting edges are cemented as shown at 20 and the front and rear edges forming the front and back walls of the radiator in use are preferably cov cred with a heat insulating material, not shown. The sides or" the outer sections are inclosed by casing 21 secured thereon by any suitable means in such a manner that they may .be readily detached, if desired, to allow an additional section to be added or removed.
Arranged within each of the base sections 3 is a burner 22 which is connected at its forward end to the air pipe 8 and comprises a tubular portion 23 into which the air and gas is mixed.
in Fig. 7, l show a section 31 especially constructed to be used in connection with a steam heating system and it will be seen that this section is substantially the same as the water heating sections with the enception of the steam dome 32 formed at the top of the same in which the steam ac cumulates and it will be seen that by simply installing sections of this character on bases as previously described, a steam generating boiler will be formed instead oi? a hot water boiler.
Having described. my invention and set forth its merits, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A heater formed of a plurality of hollow sections, each section being provided with abutting projections upon its, sides, said projections decreasing in size from the bottom upwardly.

3. A heater comprising a plurality of rectangular hollow water sections, the side walls of each water section being corrugated to form staggered arranged oval-shaped projections, the projections terminating short of each edge of said sections.
4. A water section for a heater comprising a rectangular casing having its sides corrugated to form a plurality of staggered arranged oval shaped projections terminating short of each edge to form a water column the full width of each section at each edge.
5. A water section for heaters comprising a rectangular casing having its side walls corrugated to form a plurality of ditl erent sized projections terminating short of each edge.
6. A heater formed of one or more water sections having registering hollow projections.
7. A heater formed of one or more water sections having registering hollow projections decreasing in size from the bottom upwardly.
8. A heater for a steam or hot water system formed of a plurality of sections having registering projections, each section being provided with an independent heater, an headers in vertical alinement for feeding water to said sections and for receiving wa ter or steam delivered from said sections.
9. in a water heater, a plurality of abutting water sections, a sectional base for sup porting said water sections, a burner ar- 'ange:l in said base under each of said sections, each section being provided with an inlet and a discharge port, a smoke box arranged over said sections, the side walls of said sect-ions being provided with staggered arranged registering projections oil dilferent sizes.
