UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM G. BETZ, OF CHICAGO HEIGHTS, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR T0 STEGER & SONS PIANO MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION.
TRACKING DEVICE FOR PNEUMATIC PIANOS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVILLIAM G. BETZ, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago Heights, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a certain useful Tracking Device for Pneumatic Pianos; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of this invention is to provide pneumatic pianos with an adjustable tracker bar whereby it may be accurately adjusted so that the air ducts thereof will be in perfect alinement with the perforations in the sheet of music.
The nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of a part of a pneumatic piano, the remaining parts being omitted for the sake of clearness. Fig. 2 is a left end elevation of what appears in Fig. 1.
In detail there is shown herein a wooden frame of usual type consisting of side bars 10 and 11 and a cross bar 12 for the mounting of the tracker bar 13, a take-up spool 14: for the sheet of music, not shown, a clutch shaft 15 and rewind shaft 16 for holding the roll of music. These parts may be of usual construction excepting the manner of mounting the tracker bar and means for adjusting it.
At the end of the tracker bar 13 dovetailed blocks 113 are secured which are slidable in dovetailed recesses 17 in the frame bars 10 and 11 so that the tracker bar will be laterally slidable. The tracker bar is adjusted by a lever 20 fulcrumed on a pin 21 Specification of Letters Patent.

in the frame bar 10 and forked at 22 at its lower end where itengages a screw 28 in the block 118. The upper end of the lever is turned about the end of the frame, as shown in Fig. 2, and has two arms 24: in which pins 25 centrally hold a cylinder 26 which has a central threaded opening for a set screw 27 which extends through the bar 10 and ametal plate 28 secured to said bar so as to be rotatable therein and which is held from longitudinal movement by the shoulder 29 on one side of the plate 28 and a head 30 on the other side. Therefore, by turning the head 30 on the screw 27 the tracker bar will be minutely adjusted laterally into the necessary position to enable the perforations in said tracker bar to accurately register with the perforations in the roll of music. This is of importance if there be any variations in the roll of music or in any change of the relations of the tracker bar, music roll and take-up spool.
I claim as my invention:
In a pneumatic piano, a frame provided with a dove-tailed recess, a tracker bar slidably mounted in said recess in the frame, a lever fulcrumed to said frame and in operative connection with said tracker bar for laterally adjusting it, a screw mounted in the frame and an oscillatory joint between the screw and lever whereby the screw will both actuate and hold the lever in position, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto afiixed my signature in the presence of the Witnesses herein named.
WILLIAM G. BETZ. lVitnesses:
