Toma'ZZ lw tom it may concern f Y Y B4 it known that l, JOSEPH J. HARRISON, a citizen of the United States,residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of Qalifornia, have invented a newl and useful ValliSafe, of which the following is a specification.

Thisinvention relates to wall safes, and is particularly adapted for use in bedrooms to make provision for the storage of money, jewels and other valuables.

It is the object of the present invention to provide a novel wall safe of this character which will be serviceable, simple and durable in construction, as well as ornamental.

It is a further object of the present invention to provide a money pocket and a novel means for closing same to ordinarily prevent the contents of the pocket from being exposed within the box thus deceiving the unsuspecting person.

With the above and other objects in view this invention is embodied in the novel construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter described, the invention being illustrated in the accompanying drawings,

wherein similar reference characters indicate similar parts and wherein Figure 1 is a resent invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the door thereof removed. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4E is a section on the line 4.-4 of Fig. 2 showing one of the drawers swung open and the false bottom in open position 1n dotted lines. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the wall safe with the door thereof removed.

Referring in detail to the drawings, the wall safe comprises a casing 6 having the front thereof open and in the bottom thereof is provided a pocket 7 which has the front end thereof curved or sloping. A door 13 is connected to the bottom of the casing 6 by means of hinges 16 and on the inner side of the upper or free end thereof are mounted a pair of locking bolts 14: which are operatively connected to a knob 17 whereby the same maybe distended or retracted to engage the sides o f the casing 6 or -disengage therefrom permitting the door t13 to be iocked in closed position or opened.

'The 'knob 17 may be provided with a key actuating mechanism for preventing the door '13 'cf-rom being opened without the u se !Of a proper xkey.v A shelf 11 is mounted in front elevation of the wall safe constructed in accordance with the the casing 6 and above the bottom of the` casing is arranged a false bottom 8, the same being adapted to be slid outwardly through the front of the casing and when in normal position closing the pocket 7 thus giving theappearance of an ordinary bottom. A pair of drawers or boxes 10 are hinged to the sides of the casing and are adapted to swing into and out of the casing below the shelf 11 and over the false bottom 8. These drawers or boxes 10 are provided with depending flanges 19 on their front sides', which flanges are adapted to swing against the front edge ,of the false bottom 8 when the said boxes or drawers are swung into the casing. The boxes or drawers 10 are each provided wit-h a knob 18 for convenience in swinging same.

The casing 6 is secured wit-hin a wall to bring the front end thereof flush with the wall, the casing being shown as provided with a flange 20 adapted to seat against the wall and being secured to the wall by means of a frame 15. This frame 15 is preferably secured to the wall by means of screws. The casing as well as the other parts of the safe may be made of any suitable material, it being preferable to ornament the door 13 and frame 15 to present an' appropriate appearance within the room. The door 13 and frame 15 may be of bronze metal or steel plate finished in dull brass, old copper or nickel plate, or may be of any other maten rial or finish according to the whim or desire of the occupant of the room.

In use, the space 12 above the shelf 11 may be used for containing the larger objects, such as silverware and the like, and the drawers 10 may be used for holding watches and other smaller valuables, while the pocket 7 may be used for holding coins and currency. l/Vhen the false bottom 8 is arranged in position on the bottoni of the casing the same closes the pocket 7 to hide same from view and it will be noted that both of the boxes 1() must be swung open to prevent the said false bottom from being slid outwardly to expose the pocket. Persons unaware of such an arrangement would therefore be prevented from detecting the presence of the money below the false bottom should such persons or person maliciously attempt to rifle the safe. The front end of the pocket 7 being curved or inclined permits the contents thereof to be readily removed after the drawers 10 have been opened and the false bottom 8 slid outwardly.

As stated above, this wall safe is adapted to be built into the walls of bedrooms and serves as a convenient means for storing or holding valuable and other articles, espeoially when retiring, the safe also serving to ornament the room.

It is to be understood that alterations in the details of the safe may be resorted to within the seo-pe of the appended Claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

What is claimed is :---l

l. A wall safe Comprising a casing having an open front and a pocket in the bottom thereof, a false bottom normally closing the pocket, drawers movable into the Casing over the false bottom and having means for engaging the front edge of the false bottom to retain the same in position, and a door for the casing.

2. A wall safe comprising a casing having an open front and a pocket in the bottom thereof, al slidable false bottom normally closing the pocket, a pair of drawers hinged to the sides of the casing to swing into and out of the casing and having depending flanges on their front sides for engaging the said false bottom when swung into the oas- Y Copies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
