THURMAN J. MICHENER, OF CI-LARLEROI, PENNSYLVANIA.
TOY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 16, 1912.
Application filed February 15, 1911. Serial No. 608,861.
With the above and other objects in view,
I have invented the toy illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved toy,
Fig. 2 is a rear end elevation thereof, Flg.
3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing the car in longitudinal vertical section, and Fig. 4: is a top plan view of the device.
Referring to the accompanying drawings 1 indicates a car mounted on a pair of centrally disposed grooved rollers or wheels 2 and 3, each of which are secured to the car by means of depending members 4c and 5, which come together at their bottom ends and have secured thereto a weighted member 6 which is adapted to hold the car in proper vertical position on the cable 7 The member 6 is provided with planes 8 and 9 one on either side thereof. Mounted on the outer ends of the axles 10 and 11 are propeller wheels 12 and 13, and mounted on an axle 14: are a pair of propeller wheels 15. The axle lt is j ournaled into the side of the car and located under the seat 16, and a wheel 17 fixedly mounted on the axle 14. engages and is revolved by the wheel 2. The revolution of this wheel causes the revolution of the propeller wheels 15. The wheel 2 is fixedly mounted on the axle 10 and a spring 18 is also mounted on this axle 10, one of its ends being secured to the member 2 and the other end being fixed to the member 1. One end of the axle 10 has a crank handle 19 thereon, which is adapted to wind up the spring 18. A member 20 is adapted to engage the notches 21 in the wheel 12 and lock it against rotation until it is desired to start the device. Planes 22 and 23 are attached to the sides of the car and a propeller 24 is secured to the front end thereof.
l/Vhen the device is wound up and allowed to operate on a fine wire cable it will present a very realistic appearance as all of the propeller wheels will be operating at one time; the wheel 24 by contact with the air and the others by means of the rotation of the axles upon which they are mounted. The wheels 15 will revolve in a direction opposite to that of the wheels 12 and 13 adding to the elfect presented by the toy.
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. A toy comprising a car mounted on centrally disposed grooved wheels, means for causing the rotation of said wheels, and bladed wheels mounted on the ends of the axles bearing said grooved wheels.
2. A toy comprising a car mounted on centrally disposed grooved wheels, means for causing the rotation of said wheels, bladed wheels mounted on the ends of the axles bearing said grooved wheels, and
means for balancing said car upon a suspended cable.
3. A toy comprising a car mounted on centrally disposed grooved wheels, means for causing the rotation of said wheels, bladed wheels mounted on the ends of the axles bearing said grooved wheels, means for balancing said car upon a suspended cable, an axle mounted on said car above one of said grooved wheels.
4. A toy comprising a car mounted on centrally disposed grooved wheels, means for causing the rotation of said wheels, bladed wheels mounted on the ends of the axles bearing said grooved wheels, means for balancing said car on a suspended cable, an axle mounted on said car above one of the grooved wheels, a wheel fixedly mounted on said axle, and adapted to engage the grooved wheel thereunder.
5. A toy comprising a car mounted on centrally disposed grooved Wheels, means grooved Wheel thereunder, bladed Wheels for causing the rotation of said Wheels, mounted on the ends of said axle. 10 bladed Wheels mounted on the ends of the In testimony whereof I afiix my signature axles bearing said grooved Wheels, means in presence of two Witnesses.
for balancing said car on a suspended cable, THURMAN J. MICHENER. an axle mounted on said car above one of Witnesses:
the grooved Wheels, a Wheel fixedly mounted W. J. HAZLETT,
on said axle, and adapted to engage the M. F. HAZLETT.
