DENTAL IIPBFSSION-CUP.
To all whom't may concern: i
Be it known that I, Mmclsmw Maliens, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Lbeck', in the German Empire, have invented new' and useul Improvements in Dental Impression-Cups, of which the following is a specification.
This invention-` relates to dental impression cups in which the cups are ured together and thus 4pressed against he palate and the lower jaw-bones of patients. in order to obtain a quick. 'clean and accurate impression` The object of the invention is toprovide means whereby impressions for dental purposes mayv be readily7 and accurateltob tained. and the invention consists in certain improvements in construction. whith will be full;- disclosed in the following specification and claim.
The prevailing practice of pressing an impression cup or mold against each palate or jan-bone of patients. b v means of the fingers, and then making the patient eXpel the impression is objectionable for the reason. that as soon as the fingers are removed from the i cups or molds. the latter are displaced bv a movement of the tongue or by' other Causes. and the bite becomes inaccurate. so that slight defects in the adjustment of the set of teeth constant occur. To obtain an accurate. quick and clean impression and bite it is therefore necessary'that the cups or molds -lie steadilyT against' the palate and jaw-bone. so that they are not displaced in thel act of biting. and are easiltY removed from the mouth after the impression and bite has been obtained.
In the a@compan vin;r drawings. which form part of this specification:-Figure 1 represents a plan view of a pair of impression cups embodying mr invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. and Fig. I. is a longitudinal Asection of the cups in position for taking an impression.

material corresponding to the contour of the jaws, for retaining a suitable wax or other compound and are conneeted together by means of springs c and d. Framea for the upper jaw is provided with bars e bent to conform to the roof of the mouth and support the wax, while frame b. for the lower jaw is provided with transverse rods f to hold the tongue down so that it cannot move forward' and spoil the impression being made,` The wax mold for the palate is fastened in frame o in such a manner as to make the bars e strengthen the palate-plate and press against the roof of the mouth. whereby the lower rounded edge q of the mold pushes its Way through the frame. The wax mold for thelower jaw-bone is iu like manner fastenedvin frame b and the rounded edge h pushes its way through the frame. Thereupon the two frames a and 7 with the `rounded edges fi and h ofthe molds respectively. are closedl upon each other by bendingr springs c and d. and are thus put into the mouth of the patient: the molds clinging to the palate and jaw-bone and being kept in that position by the tension of the. springs. The impression now obtained is absolutely accurate. and the whole operation an exceedingly simple and clean one. The impression having been obtained, the apparatus `is removed from the mouth. and the molds secured in the articulator for the purpose of constructing the set'of teeth.
Haring thus fully described my invention. what I claim is- A dental impression cup comprising two oppositely arranged wine frames, the upper frame being provided with bars as e and the lower frame with transverse bars f, and a spring on each side of and pivotally doitnted to the frame..
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
