FRANK BENJAMIN POTTER, OF CONNELLSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
SEWING-MACHINE ATTACHMENT.
Application filed December 8, 1911.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 9, 1912.
Serial No. 664,616.
To all whom it may concern:-
Be it known that I, FRANK B. POTTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Connellsville, in the county of Fayette and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sewing-Machine Attachments, of which the followlng is a specification.
This invention relates to sewing machine attachments and more particularly to grinding and polishing devices.
The object of the invention is the pro v1- sion of a simple and efficient device whlch may be conveniently attached to the fly wheel of a sewing machine and in which the separate grinding and buffing members are removably carried.
Further objects of this invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents the main shaft of the sewing machine and 2 the fly or balance wheel.
The attachment comprises a disk 3 having a lateral annular flange 4 and a vertical annular extension 5 which produces a limiting shoulder 6. The disk is provided with a plurality of radial slots 7 in which clamping screws 8 are adapted .to slide. These clamping screws are carried by clamping members 9 which extend over the periphery of the wheel 2 so as to hold the disk in place thereon.
Mounted upon the flange 4 and held in place thereon, as will be. hereinafter described, is an annular bufling ring 10 which seats againstthe shoulder 6. This buffing ring is held in place by a grinding stone holder 11 which is substantially Z-shaped in cross section and has secured thereon the grinding stones 12 and 13. These stones are of difierent texture or fineness so asto be adapted to use in grinding diflierent articles. The holder 11 is provided with a series of apertures 14: in which are engaged spring pressed pins 15 which also pass through apertures 16 in the flange 4. The springs which carry the pins are of ordinary leaf spring form and have inturned ends 17 so that they may be readily manipulated.
What I claim as new is 1. A device of the class described comprising a drum, means for attaching the same to a wheel, a bufling member removably mounted on the drum, a grinding member removably mounted on the drum, and means to hold the grinding member in position, said grinding member holding the buffing member against removal.
2. A device of the class described, a flanged drum, adjustable means for securing the same to a wheel, a buffing member removably mounted upon the drum, a grinding member removably mounted upon the drum and adapted to hold the bufiing member in position, said drum and grinding member having apertures and spring pressed pins carried by the drum and entered in said apertures to hold the grinding member in position.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK BENJAMIN POTTER.
