Be it known that I, ALcIDE E. BEAUDETr, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Albuquerque, in the county of Bernalillo and State of New Mexico, have 'invented a new and Improved Aeroplane, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to an improvement in aeroplanes, and has for its object the provision of a simple, inexpensive but efficient device for absorbing and eliminating the shock when alighting. i

The present embodiment of the invention is shown applied to the frame 1 of an aer'oplane, and comprises a plurality. of wheels 2,
which may be pneumatic tired as shown, and are journaled on axles 3. Each of the axles is held in bearings 4 on a pair of armsv, and each arm is provided' with aring 6 at its other end which engages over a `spindle 7 at the adjacent end -of a shaft 8 arrangedtransversely of the frame. The shaft`8 is arched at 9, at its center and a bar 10 is ner end of each spindle adjacent to the arm. Each bar is braced laterally by a brace 12 having one end bolted to the top of the bar..

Each cylinder is pro` vided with a vent 31, near its upperend and a plunger composed of three spaced heads 32, 33and 34 is arranged in the cylin ders. Each head is composed of a disk of leather 35 or the` like held between twp disks The disks 37 fit the 38 is provided, and the disks 36 fit within the cup orflange. The upper disk of the head 32 is provided with a central opening, through which extends astem 39 which 1s headed below the disk. The stem extends into a block 40 of rubber or like flexible material and is secured tothe block by a pin threaded onto the bolts above the heads.
Spacing sleeves 45 are provided for holding the heads in spaced relation, and a tube 46 is connected with each bolt 42. Each'tube' extends through an opening inthe head f27 and the end thereof ts over the head 43 of a bolt 42. The tubes extend downward,
and the lower end of each tube is provided with a bearing 47 engaging the adjacent end of the adjacent axle 3. The tubes of each cylinder are connected at intervals by rin or loops 48, and each tube is bent lateral y above the wheel 2 to its connection with the axle. The vent 31 is of small size with respect to the diameter of the cylinder so that sufficient resistance is offered to 'the upward movement of the plunger to proph' erly cushion the frame from the shock ef the wheels striking the ground.

The operation of the device will be ,obvi-l" ous from they description. The air in the resistance is oHered by the air. Should the plunger strike the top of the cylinder, the block 40 would prevent any damage to the mechanism.
The cylinders are connected by a tube 49, each end of the tube engaging a vent 31 of a cylinder.
I claim 1. In combination with the frame of an aeroplane, of a shaft on the frame, spaced pairs of arms having bearings at one end `engaging the ends of the shaft, an axle connected with the other ends of each pair of arms, a Wheel on each axle, an upright sup ported by the shaft, at the inner side of each pair of arms, a brace between the top of each upright and the shaft at the outer side of the arms, a cross plate near the tops of the uprights, a cylinder pivoted at its upper end to each end of the cross plate, a tube pivoted to each end of each axle and extending into the adjacent cylinder, a plunger in cach cylinder to which the tubes are connected, each cylinder having a vent opening above the plunger and a tube connecting the cylinders, the ends of the tube communicating with the vent openings of the cylinders.

In an aeroplane, the combination with the frame; of a shaft arranged transversely thereof, a pair of arms mounted to swing on each end of the shaft, a wheel journaled between each pair of arms, a cross plate above the shaft, a cylinder supported at each end of the cross plate, a plunger in the cylinder, and a rigid connect-ion between each wheel and the plunger, each cylinder having a vent opening above the plunger, a cushion of rubber on the upper end of each plunger, and a connection between the vent openings of the cylinders.
3. In an aeroplane, the combination with the frame, of a shaft arranged transversely thereof, a pair of arms mounted to swing on each of the shaft, a wheel journaled between each end of the shaft, a wheel journaled between each pair of arms, a cylinder connected with the frame above each wheel, a plunger in each cylinder, a rigid connection between each wheel and the plunger of the adjacent cylinder, and a communication between the cylinders for equalizing the pressure therein.
