Be it known that I, FERDINAND GER, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements' in Blue-Printing Machines, of
which the following is a specification.
My invention has relatlon to a machine for printing on sensitized paper in transit from-a photograph, drawing ortracing; and in such connection it relates firstly, to the provision of such a machine with a bed so arranged as to be readily shiftable from an inclined vertical position into a substantially horizontal plane. -Secondly, to the provision of such a machine with an endless conveyer against which the bed of the machine is in contact in operative position and adapted to be readily slackened, as required, by a manual operation and the endless conveyer mounted on carrier rolls and also provided with a tensioning idler-roll readily shiftable so as to increase or decrease the tension under which the conveyer is maintained in operative relation in contact with said bed. Thirdly, to the provision of such a machine with an endless conveyer having means formed therewith and operating in conjunction with the carrier and idler rolls thereof to maintain true alining movement of the said conveyer in the travel of the same over and around said rolls. Fourthly, to the provision of such a machine with light emitting bodies pivotally supported in front of the machine adjacent to the shiftable bed. Fifthly, to the provision of such a machine with a shiftable bed, light emitting bodies arranged in seriesand pivotally supported in front of the machine adjacent to said bed and a receptacle arranged to receive a drawing or tracing located beyond the normal position of said light emitting bodies, the constructive arrangement being such that in travel of the endless conveyer a-drawing or tracing will be impelled in contact with sensitized paper and along said bed and will be subjected to the influence of said light emitting bodies and the drawing or tracing will then be removed into said receptacle in front of the machine and the printed product will be removed from above the machine and to the rear thereof. Sixthly, to the provision of such a machine with a framing for receivmg and supportin a transparent bed, said framing being he d under the tension of spring controlled stud-pins to maintain the said bed free from the influence of heat and cold on bothsides of the bed hence to guard against undue cracking or breaking of the bed in use. Seventhly, to the PI'OVlSIOIl of such a machine with a conveyer havin a cord or cords located atthe respective e ges or extending from the body of the conveyer to engage a groove in the surface of the carrier and idler-rolls or to contact with the respective ends of said rolls, to permit thereby of true alining movement in travel of said conveyer with respect to said rolls traveling in contact with the bed of said machine. Eighthly, to the provision of such a machine with a belt conveyer carried by removable carrier rolls and a tensioning idler roll which by its arrangement therewith and contacting with a bed permits of removal of the conveyer from the rear of the machine Without disturbing the position of the bed by simply lessening the tension under which the said conveyer is held and removing said rolls. Ninthly, to the provision of such a machine with a bed adapted to be readily shifted from a vertically inclined position so as to assume a substantially horizontal position, thereby'to permit of readily cleansing the entire workmg area of the bed or of replacing the same by another, without disturbing the conveyer and operatingparts thereof;
and tenthly, to the provision of such a machine with light emitting bodies pivotally supported in front of the machine beyond the shiftable bed and arranged to be manipulated so as to be held in an inoperative position away from the machine.
My invention as ,above defined, consists of a blue printing machine constructively arranged for operation in substantially the manner hereinafter described and claimed.

The proper relation of the light emitting bodies with respect to the bed 72 in operative position, is regulated by stops a provided on the side standards a and as shown, struck up therefrom.

side standards a, to permit of ready removal, as required, and for purposes as hereinafter explained. The tensioning idler roll 6 is mounted in U-shaped bearings of bell-cranks f, pivotedto the side standards a.

as clearly shown in Fig. 1. On the vertical rod 7, is mounted a spring 7*, and a portion of this rod is threaded and carries a nut f .and a washer f", to tighten and loosen the said coiled spring, bearing at its respective ends against the bracket (1 and the washer 7", whereby through depressing the foot treadle of the lever f the pressure under which the b'elt-conveyer e, is held is lessened to free the conveyer from its taut relation with the bed I), to a slackened relation and practically out of contact with the said bed, when from any reason it is desirable such should be slackened to reduce the tension of the conveyer against the bed or the tension of the conveyer against the bed can be increased when the foot treadle is in the position shown in Fig. 1, with the idlerroll 6 in contact with the belt-conveyer e,

It will be observed. from Figs. 1 and 2, 126% that as the bed is arranged the-entire area is an accessible working surface for sensitized paper receiving by the action of light the print ofa drawing or tracing. The tension of the bed is also readily provided for, 12s

Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a blue printing machine, standards, a normally vertically inclined shiftable bed, means for pivotally supporting the bed to said standards, light emitting bodies, and means, whereby said bodies are pivotally supported from said standards on one'side of said bed and are adapted to be shifted over said bed to allow said bed to be shifted into a substantially horizontal position.
2. In a blue printing machine, standards, a normally vertically inclined shiftable bed, a framing for said bed pivotally connected with said standards, means connected with said standards to lock said bed in its vertically inclined shifted position, light emit-.
' ting bodies, and means whereby said bodies are adapted to be pivot-ally supported from said standards and to be shifted beyond said bed so as to permit the latter to assume a horizontal position.
3. In a blue printing machine, standards, a normally vertically inclined bed, a framing for said bed and pivotally supporting the same from said standards and arranged so as to be shifted into a horizontal position, means connected with said standards for engaging said framing to lock said bed in its vertically inclined position, light emitting bodies, means connected with said standards whereby said bodies are supported therefrom, and means connected withsaid standards and adapted to engage the supporting means of said li ht emitting bodies to limit the position 0 the same.
4. In a blue printing machine, standards, a normally vertically inclined bed, a framing for said bed and supporting the bed from said standards so as to permit of the shifting of the bed into a substantially horizontal position, a framing connected with said standards, light emitting bodies arranged in series and carried by said framing,'and means connected with said standards and cooperating with said framing to limit position of said bodies with respect to that of said bed.
5.-In a blue printing machine, standards, a normally vertically inclined bed, means for pivotally supporting the bed from said standards so as to permit it to be shifted into a substantially horizontal position, a framing connected with said standards, light emitting bodies in series arrangement carried by said framing, and means connected with said standards and adapted to engage said framing to control the operative position of said bodies with respect to that of said bed.
6. In a blue printing machine, standards, a normally vertically inclined bed, means for pivotally supporting the'bed from said standards so as'to permit it to be shifted into a substantially horizontal position, a framing movably connected with said standards, light emitting bodies arranged in series in and carried by said framing, and means connected with said standards and adapted to engage said framing to regulate the positions of said bodies.
7. In a blue printing machine, standards, a normally vertically inclined bed, means for pivotally supporting the bed from said standardsand as so arranged adapted to be shifted into a substantially horizontal posi--v tion, light emitt-ingbodies arranged in series, means carried bythe standards whereby said bodies ar pivotally supported from said standards, means adapted to engage the supporting means of said bodies to limit the position of the same with respect to that of said bed, and a receptacle arranged to receive and hold a print and drawing or tracing delivered from the machine.
8. In a blue printing machine, standards, a normally vertically inclined bed, means for pivotally supporting the bed from said standards and as so arranged adapted to be shifted into a substantially horizontal position, a framing pivoted to said standards, light emitting bodies arranged in-series in and carried by said framing, means connected with said standards and arranged to engage said framing to limit the position of said bodies in respect to that of said bed,
and a receptacle removably arranged in.
standards and so arranged that said bed can be shifted into a substantially horizontal position, light emitting bodies, means whereby said bodies are movably supported from said standards, means connected with said standards and adapted to engage the supporting means of said bodies to limit the position of the same with respect to that of said bed, a receptacle arranged to receive and hold drawings or tracings delivered from the machine, and means connected with said receptacle to support the same at a proper angle to said bed.
10. In a blue printing machine, standards, a normally inclined bed, means to movably support the bed from said standards, an endless belt-conveyer held normally in contact with said bed, the latter by means of its supporting means being arranged to be shifted into a substantially horizontal position, said conveyer provided with carrier rolls and a tensioning idler-roll, means to shift the latter roll, light emitting bodies, means whereby said bodies are pivotally supported from said standards and as so arranged adapted to be shifted to either side of said machine, and means connected with said standards and adapted to engage the supporting means of said bodies to limit the position of said bodies.
11. In a blue printing machine, standards, a normally vertically inclined bed, means to pivotally support the bed from said standards, an endless beltconveyer normally held in contact with said bed, the latter by means of its supporting means being arranged .to be shifted into a substantially horizontal position, said conveyer provided with carrierrolls, brackets in which said rolls are mounted, movable connections, a tensioning idler-roll carried by said connections, and means operatively connected with said connections to vary the tension of said idler-roll in contact with said conveyer.
12. In a blue printing machine, standards, a normally vertically inclined bed, means tomovably support the bed from said standards, an endless belt-conveyer held normally in contact with said bed, the latter by means of its supporting means being so arranged as to be shifted into a substantially horizontal position, carrier rolls and a tensioning roll for said conveyer connected with said standards and said conveyer being provided with edge means to engage the ends of said rolls to maintain said conveyer normally in contact with said bed.
13. In a blue printing machine, standards, a normally vertically inclined bed,
means to movably support the bed from said standards, an endless belt conveyor held normally in contact with said bed, the latter by means of its supporting means 'bein arranged to be. shifted into a substantially horizontal position, rolls 'over which said conveyer is arran ed to travel in contact with said bed, sai conveyer having means to engage said rolls to maintain said conveyer in its travel in proper relation with said bed inits normal position, 1i ht emitting bodies, and means whereby said bodies,

14. In a blue printing machine, standards, a normally vertically inclined bed, means to movably support the bed from said standards, an endless belt conveyer held normally in contact with said bed, the latter by means of its supporting means being arranged so as to be shifted into a substantially horizontal posit-ion, carrier-rolls and a tensioning idlerroll for said conveyer, means to manually shift said idler-roll, and said conveyer having means to bear against said rolls to provide proper relation of the same with said bed.
15. In a blue printing machine, a bed,
rolls, open bearings therefor, a belt-conveyer arranged to travel over said rolls normally in contact with said bed, said rolls being supported in said bearings, a tensioning idler-roll similarly supported, and means to shift said idler-roll into and out of cont-act with said belt-conveyer.
16. In a blue printing machine, standards having U-shaped brackets, a bed, rolls, a belt conveyer arranged to travel over said rolls and normally in contact with said bed, said rolls being detachably supported in said brackets, a tensioning idler-roll similarly supported and a treadle-lever-connection to shift said idler-roll into and out of contact with said belt-conveyer.
17. In a blue printing machine, standards having open bearings, a bed, rolls, a beltconveyer arranged to travel over said rolls and normally in contact with said bed, said rolls being supported in said bearings, a tensioning idler-roll similarly supported for said belt-conveyer, and a treadle-lever-connect-ion having an adjusting device to vary the tension of said idler-roll in contact with said belt-conveyer.
18. In a blue printing machine, standards having open bearings, a bed, rolls, a beltconveyer arranged to travel over said rolls and normally in contact with saidbed, said rolls being supported in said bearings, a tensioning idler-roll similarly supported for said bel-conve'yer, and a treadle-lever-connection having aspring controlled adjusting-device to vary the tension of said idlerroll in contact with said belt-conveyer.
19. In a blue printing machine, standards, a normally inclined bed, means to pivotally support the bed from said standards, means connected with said standards to i lock said bed in its normally operative pothe tension of said conveyer,
sit-ion, said bed being so arranged as to be shifted into a ,horizontal position, rolls mounted on said standards, a belt-conveyer passing over said rolls and normally in contact with said bed, one of said rolls adapted to be independently manipulated, means k whereby said roll may be adjusted to vary a series of light emitting bodies, and means whereby said bodles are supported from said stand-- ards and arranged so as to' beshifted to either side thereof.

In a blue printing machine, standards, a framing pivoted thereto, a transparent bed movably supported in said framing to expose unobstructedly the entire working area of said bed, light emitting bodies, means whereby said bodies are pivotally supported from said standards, and a device connected with said standards and adapted to engage the supporting means for said bodies in one position thereof.
22. In. a blue printing machine, standards, a framing movably connected therewith, a transparent bed movably supported in said framing to expose unobstructedly,
the entire working area of said bed, light emitting bodies, means connected with sald standards whereby said bodies are supported on either side of said bed, means connected with said standards and arranged to engage the supporting means of said bodies to limit the position of the same with respect to said bed, and means connected with said standards and arranged to engage the supporting means of said bodies to maintain the same above said standards.
23. In a blue printing machine, standards, a normally vertically inclined bed, means to pivotally support the bed from the standards, means connected with said standards to lock said bed in its vertically inclined operative position, rolls connected with said standards, a belt-conveyer passing over said rolls and normally in contact with said bed, one of said rolls adapted to be manipulated, means whereby said roll may be manipulated to vary the tension of said conveyer,light.-emitting bodies, means whereby said bodies are pivotally supported from said bed, and a receptacle arranged in proximity to sald bed to receive a delivered drawing, tracing,

carrier-rolls connected with said standards, an endless belt-conveyer traveling thereover, a tensioning idler-roll'for said conveyer, and means connected with said idlerroll and arranged to be manipulated to vary the tension under which said idler-roll is held in contact with said belt-conveyer.

In a blue printing machine, side standards, a normally vertically inclined bed, means whereby said bed is pivotally supported from said standards and so arranged as to be shifted to assume a substantially horizontal position, light-emitting bodies, means whereby said bodies are pivotally supported from said standards to one side of said bed and arranged so as to be shifted above and beyond said bed, carrierrolls connected with saidstandards, an endless belt-conveyer arranged totravel over I said carrier-rolls and normally in contact with said bed, a tensioning idler-roll for said co-nveyer, means connected with said idler-roll to vary the tension under which said idler-roll is held in contact with said belt-conveyer, and a receptacle to receive a drawing, tracing or print delivered from said machine.

In a blue printing machine, side standards, a normally inclined bed, means to pivotally support the bed from said standards, removable carrier-rolls mounted in said standards, a belt-conveyer carried by said rolls and normally in contact with said bed, atensioning-roll, means connected with said standards and bed to enable said bed to be shifted to assume a substantially horizontal position, and a framing pivoted to said standards and carrying light emittingbodies suspended therefrom, said bodies being adapted to be shifted out of operative position with respect to said bed.
