A further object of my invention is to provide a rail-joint- Which shall be so designed and constructed as to be' readily taken apart without the use of bolts or other detachable securing means.

The preferred form of' construction of my invention as illustrated in the ac companying drawings comprises an ordinary rail having-a base 1, web2, and head 3,
there beingr no bolt-holes or anyspecial formation of the rail preparatory to mak ing the i'ail-joint. 'llie rail securing means which will be presently described is applied to each end of all of the rails of a track, hence it is only necessary to deseribe the construction of such means as applied to one rail end. Broadly the securing means comprises i'nteijnieshing fingers and sockets provided oiithe rail ends, and more specificallyseeuring nieinbersoi' plates in which said lingers and recesses are foi-ined. One ol' said securing members which is. applied toone side of a railcom-A prises a finger 4 extending longitudinally rom a .plate 5t here being recesses 67pro'- vided on either side-of sa-idfinger in the 60 body of' said plate. At one end of said recesses -flanges 7 are provided the edges ofv which lie inthe same plane as the inte-' rior surface of the finger 4. lIt is 'apparentfroin the foregoing 1description that in order to unite any two' given rail ends provided with fingers and sockets according to my invention itis only necessary to press the fingers into the sockets provided therefor until the rail ends are contiguous, there being nobolts or other detachable securing means, and the spiking of the rails of the rail ties being depended on to prevent creeping and for holding the rails in position.
A rail-joint designed and constructed as set forth .is simpleA of construction and highly eflicient in operation.
