To all whom it may concern:
Be. it known that I, HARRY G.'KERR, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphiaand State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Box-Making Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention broadly relates to the general class of box making machines, and contemplates the provision of a device of the class named whereby the box blanks are automatically fed into the machine from a source ofsupply, which may be constructed to hold any desired number of such blanks, as for instance five hundred, or one thousand and upward; and wherein the side edgesof said blanks are turned upward to a predetermined extent, to form the sides of the box; and from which the blanks, after the sides have been turned up as above stated, are automatically piled, one upon another, and discharged from the machine.
To the accomplishment of the ends above outlined the device consists essentially in the construction, arrangement and combination of the several parts comprised therein for service substantially as is hereinafter described, and illustrated in the acconi any ing drawings which form a part 0 this specification, and in which:
Figure 1, is a top plan view of a device constructed in accordance with, and embodying my invention. Fig. 2, shows in a similar top plan view, a portion of the. device illustrated in Fig.'1,'the operative parts thereof being shown at a different point of adjustment. Fig. 3, is a sectional elevation of the device on the line or, m of Fig. 1. Figs. 4 to 8, inclusive, illustrate the box side turn ing portion of the machine, and the position assumed by a box side at different stages of the side forming operation. Fig. 9, is a detail elevation of the device by which the boxes are discharged from the machine. Figs. 10 and 11, show respectively a side elevation and a top plan view of one of the carriers, by which the box blank is moved forward and through the machine. Fig. 12, is a bottom plan view of a box blank, as it appears when ready to be passed through the machine, Fig. 13, is a detail view, showing method of removing'a box blank from the magazine.
Similar numerals of reference in the several figures of the drawings denote similar parts.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1, designates the body of the machine which may consist in a single casting, as shown in the accompanying drawings, or in several parts connected together to form a whole, as may be desired, and further, may be-provided upon its lower side, with flanges, or webs 2, to impart to said body the rigidity and strength necessary to successfull withstand the strain incident to the work which the device is to accomplish- I provide the body 1, wit-h supports or legs 3, preferably flanged to impart rigidity thereto, and provide said supports at their opposite ends respectively, with lugs apertured vto receive bolts b which said supports are secured to the ody 1, and also to the floor or foundation upon which the machine sets.
By reference to Fig. 1, it will be observed that the body 1, of the machine resembles, to a certain extent the-letter L, that is to say, a portion of said body at one end of the machine, extends at right angles to the remaining portion for a reason that will hereinafter be fully explained.
I provide the body of the machine, in each of the portions which are.arranged at right angles to each other, as above noted, with slots4, and 5, which extend in longitudinal direction in said body, (for a portion of. the length thereof) in the middle of said body, see Fig. 1, to form guideways for pendent lugs 6, and 7, whichare secured respectively to carriers 8, and 9, which rest and move upon theup per surface of the body 1, and are constructed and operate in manner and form, substantially as is hereinafter set forth. At each side of the slots 4, and 5, and equi-distant therefrom I secure. upwardly projecting L- shaped flanges 10, and 11, to the top of the body 1, preferably by screws" 12, as shown, and provide that said screws shall extend through slots 13, formed in the outwardly projecting part of saidflanges 10, and 11, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, to permit lateral adjustment of said flanges, for a purpose which will presently be described. I provide that the flanges 10, and'll, shall be cut into section, this also for purposes of adjustment as will hereinafter appear.
By" reference to Figs. 1, and '2, of the project from bevel gear wheels 24, and 25,
drawings it will be observed that the carriers 8, and 9, are arranged to move at .right angles to each other, and further that the distances traveled by said carriers vary in extent, and that, of said carriers, the one designated by the numeral 8, is connected to move a greater distance than the carrier 9. It will also be observed tha the carrier 9, moves past the forward end of the slot 4, see Fig. 2, and that said carrier 9, reaches its forward limit of movement at practically the' same time as does the carrier 8, there being but a sli "ht difference of'time in this regard, such di erence for a purpose presently to be explained.
I provide that the carriers 8, and 9, shall be moved backward and forward in uniso and to such end I provide each of the pen ent lugs 6, and 7, with a bifurcated lower .end, to respectively receive one end of a connecting rod 14 and 15, the opposite end of each of which is connected, the one to the upper end if a swinging lever 16, the other to, the top of a swinging lever 17 the opposite ends of which levers are hinged respectively between projecting lugs formed on blocks 18, and 19, secured to the foundation upon which the machine is supported.
To swing the levers 16, and 17, I connect the same by connecting rods 20, and 21, respectively with crank pins 22, and 23, which the teeth of which engage each with .the
other, and which are journaled to acommon support 26, see Fig. 3, I provide that the shaft 27, of the wheel 24, shall extend outwardly and carry upon its outer end a pulley28, to receive a belt, (not shown in the drawings) by which movement is imparted, to the machine.
As has been hereinbefore set forth,the carriers 8, and 9, are arranged to be moved to different distances and to such end, (since the said carriers receive movement from the levers 16, and 17) I provide that the ends of theconnecting rods 20, and 21, shall be hinged, each to its respective lever 16 or 17 at a different distance from the lower pivotal point .of said levers, thus the point at which the connecting rod 20, is pivoted to the lever 16, as indicated by the arrow a, is nearer to the lower pivotal point of said levcr 16, than the point, at which the rod 21,
is connected't'o its lever 17, as-indicated by crank pin 22, reaches .the dead its bevel wheel 24. By the foregoing construction of parts it will be apparent that the carriers 8 and 9, will be moved backward and forward'in uni.-

If desired the movement of the carriers, as above noted, may be varied, to which end I provide each of the levers, 16, and 17, with a slot 29, so that the pivotal pins upon which the connecting rods 20 and 21, are hinged to said levers 16, and 17, may be moved nearer to or farther from the lowerpivotal points of said levers, thus changing the throw of the carriers 8, and '9, by said levers as noted. 1 v v v I providethat the carriers 8, and 9, shall be maintained 'in'close contact with the upness thatahox blank may lie therebelow',
when the device is in operation, and I further provide that a shoulder 32, shall he formed at the junction of such reduced portion of the carriers with the thicker rear portion thereof, which shoulder 32, shall bear upon the edge of the box blank when the machine isin operation, to movesaid blank forward. I
I provide eacliof the flanges 10, and 11, upon their inner vertical faces, with a device for turning,- or bending the side edges of a box blank upwardly and inwardly to form the sides of a'box, the said device consisting in a cam block 33, preferably adjustably. connected to said flange and in thickness equal to the depth of the side to be turned upwardly upon the blank, to which latter named end I provide the forward end of the block 33, with a wedge shaped end formed by cutti-n theupper surface of the block 33, away rom the diagonal line 34, upon the upper surface of the block to the lower front edge thereof, whereby a twisted, or curved surface 35, is formed, see Figs. 3 to 8, by which theedge of the blank, when the same is moved by the carrier, is turned up. as shown in Fig. 4.
I provide that the line, ,u on which the. blank is bent to form the si es of the box, shall be well defined to which end I cause the portion of the blank which, as above described, has been turned up, to be bent inwardly and downwardly upon the upper surface of the carrier 8, or 9, which, tofacilitate such action is purposely provided upon its upper surface, at each of its sides and for the major portion of its length. with inclined portions 36, that said carrier may be, at the part noted, knife-edged, see Figs. 3, 5, and 10.
To carry the operation of bending the edges of the blank downward upon the carrier 8, or 9, as above noted, intopractice, I provide each of the blocks 33, with an inwardly projecting portion 37, which has its outer side inclined and also its lower surface 38, upwardly inclined that the blank may readily pass therebelow, see Figs. 3, and 5. I provide that the rear end, or side of the i projection 37, shall extend at right angles to the flanges 10 and 11, to'form shoulders 39, against which the rear ends of the upwardly turned parts of the blank impinge when said blank has passed from below t e portion 37, see Fig. 6, and by which said blank is withheld from backward move, ment, when a short cross-head 40, connected to the carrier 8, is drawn thereunder by the backward movement of said carrier.
It is to be understood that each of the carriers 8, and 9, will have reached its forward limit of movement at the moment the blank passes from below the projection 37, to which end each of the said carriers is constructed and arranged, and that the further movement of said blanks will be effected the one, that moved by the carrier 8, by a short cross-head 40, that is adjustably connected by a rod 41. to said carrier 8, and moves in advance of said carrier, see" Figs. 1 and 2, and the other, that moved by the carrier 9, by the next succeeding blank below the carrier. It is also to be understood that the carriers 8, and 9, will, when they have moved their respective blanks to the position last above described, and shown in Fig. 6, be returned to starting position to engage and move, each, another blank. So far as has been described the construction and operation of the carrier 8, and the bending blocks 33, co-acting therewith, are similar to that of the carrier 9, and the bending blocks 42, which co-act therewith.
It will be observed by reference to the drawings, Fi s. 1 and 2, and to certain parts of'the descr1 tion he'reinbefore contained, that the bending blocks 33 and 42, are arranged at right angles each to the other,
also that the carriers 8 and 9, move at right angles to each other, and it will he therefore understood that a box blank will, during its passage through the machine, have its our side edges turned up, two, those opposite each other, while being moved forward by the carrier 8, as hereinbefore described, and the remaining two while being moved forward by the carrier 9.
' It will also be understood that the blank, in order that it may be placed below the reduced-portion of the carrier 9, mustbe flat throughout its extent, and that consequently the side edges of said blank, which, as described, have been turned up by the block 33, shall be, for a time bent backward and into the horizontal plane to effect which purpose I cut. the rear end of each of the blocks 33, away to form an inclined surface 43, see F i s. 1, 2, and 3, and extend the extreme en of each thereof below the forward undercut or inclined end 44 of an adjustable block, or rib 45, which is adjustably secured to each of the flanges 10, at such distance above the body 1 of the machine as will permit the blank to be freely moved forward by the cross head 40, during the next forward.
movement of the carrier 8, to which such cross-head 40, is connected as is shown in Fig. 7.
To insure that the blank shall be guided to pass beneath the carrier 9, as shown in Fig. 8, I adjustably secure a leaf spring 46 to each of the blocks 45, at the rear end thereof to bear upon the blank as it passes from below the blocks 45, and thus insures its proper passage to and below the carrier 9, as hereinbefore noted, and as illustrated in the accompanyin drawings.
I provide that th blanks shall be automatically fed into the machine, to which end I employ a magazine preferably designed to hold a predetermined number of the blanks,
and consisting essentially in four uprights 47, angular in cross-section, and adjustably connected together by bars 48, which are provided with slots 49, through which bolts pass from the uprights 47, to receive nuts 50, by which the said u rights are secured at the desired distances rom each other, see Figs. 1, and3.
I connect the magazine thus constructed to the flanges 10, in such manner that the inwardly rojecting portions of the u rights 47, s all rest, at their lower ends, t e one at approximately the middle of a rib 51, which projects inwardly from each of the flanges 10, while the remaining upright 47 rests upon and at the extreme forward end of a rib 52, also projecting inwardly from each of said flanges 10. The ribs 51 form the bottom or support upon which theblanks rest when within the magazine, see Fig. 3.
. I provide that the blanks shall be removed from the magazine by the carrier 8, and to such end I provide said carrier, at each of its sides, with forwardly projecting arms 53, having their extreme forward ends turned upwardly to form fingers 54, which, (as the carrier 8, is moved to bring a blank into connection with the bending blocks), come into contact with the forward edge of the lowermost blank, and withdraws such blank from the magazine, see Fig. 12.'
By reference to Figs. 3 and 12, it will be observed thatthe upper surface of the lower blank, when being removed from the maga- I therefore provide that'the rear end of zine, barely escapes the lower surface of each. of the ribs 52 shall be bent downward at 55 to form abutments against which the blank strikes, and by which it is thrown forward and upon the upper surfaces of the arms 53, from which it is removed by coming into contact with the downwardly turned ends 56 of the ribs 51, to fall into position upon the bed at the point indicated by the numeral 57, to pass below the carrier 8, to facilitate which the forward end of the carrier 8, is turned upwardly as shown at 58.
I provide that the blank shall be held in close contact with the upper surface of the body l, immediately before the said blank comes into contact with the bending blocks 33 and 42, to which end I cause said blank atthe points named to pass below pawls 59 and 60, which are hinged to the ,inner'surface of each of the flanges 10 and 11.,at the points named, and are each provided with pins 61, which project from said pawlrs through apertures in said flanges to receive pressure from leaf springs 62 which bear thereon, upon the outside of said flanges.
I provide that the blank, after the side edges thereof have been turned up, shall be automatically discharged from the machine, to which end I provide the body 1 of the machine, beyond the limit of-movement of the carrier 9, with an aperture 63, sufiicient in extent to permit of the passage of the blanks with the sides thereof turned up, and at the corner of said opening I secure to the lower surface of the body 1, pendent arms 64, between which the blanks are forced downwardly, by downwardly projecting portions 65, of rock arms 66, which extend from a rock shaft 67, that is mounted in supports 68, upon the body 1 at one side of the aperture 63, and provided with a crank arm 69, from the crank pin 70, of which a connecting rod 71 extends above one of the flanges 11, to a support 72, which projects upwardly from the body 1. I provide that the rod 71,'a short distance in advance of the support 72, shall be bent to form a shoulder 73, against which a stud '74, which projects upwardly from the carrier 9, impinges, when said carrier is at its extreme limit of backward movement, shown in Fig. 2, to move the rod 71 longitudinally and move the heads 65, and blank thereunder downwardly, as shown in Fig. 9.
To return the rock arms 66 and their connected heads 65 to normal position above the aperture 63, that another blank may be passed thereunder by the carrier 9, provide that the end of the rod 71 shall bear upon a leaf spring 7 5, which, placed under tension by the backward movement of the carrier 9, as shown in Fig. 2, operates to move the rod 71, backward when said ten- 1 sion is removed, to facilitate which I provide the rock shaft 67, upon the sideopposite that from which the arms 66 project, with a counterweight 76, see Figs. 1 and 9. It is to be understood that the pendent arms 64, by which the blanks .are held when discharged from the machine, as last above set forth, may in length be adapted to rej ceive any predetermined number. desired of said blanks, further that said blanks may be caused to discharge therefrom and into any type, or form of holder desired.
It is desirable that the flanges 10 and 11, as hereinbefore set forth, be made adjustable toward and from each other, that blanks of different sizes may be operated upon, and to facilitate such adjustment I preferably form such flanges in sections, separating them at points d, see Figs. 1 and 2. It is also desirable that the bending blocks be adjustable upon said flanges independently of the adjustment of said flanges, and while I do not desire to limit myself to any particular type or form of adjustment to attain the end last named, I yet have found the method shown in Fig. 1 to meet the end said flanges, with nuts 79 and 80, by which.
as will be readily seen, the said blocks may be held at any distance. desired from the flanges named.
In Fig. 12 I show a bottom plan view of the box blank used in this-machine, and by reference to said Fig. 12 it will be seen that each of the four corners is cut out upon lines extending at right angles to the edges of the blank, and to a depth corresponding with the height desired for the sides of the box. I further prepare the blanks for the machine by scoring them' to a sufficient depth along the dotted lines marked g. g. and h. h. to facilitate the operation of bendnamed, such method consisting in providing ing said edges upward, as will be'readily posit said blank upon the bed of the machine in position to pass beneath said carrier 8 upon its next forward movement, as hereinbefore noted, and to be carried forward and into contact with the edge bending blocks whereby the side edges of said blank are first turned upwardly, and thereafter through subsequent movements of said car rier. 8, returned to horizontal position to pass beneath the carrier 9, by which the blank is moved forward, at right angles to its first movement, and its remaining side edges brought into contact bending blocks to be turned up,'and by subsequent movements of which it is finally discharged from the machine.
Modifications in detail of construction may be made in my herein described invention without departing from the spirit, or sacrificing the advantages thereof, and I therefore claim the right to make and use any and all such modifications as shall properly fall within the scope and limit of said invention.
Having thus described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters, Pat-' reclprocatmg mechanism and an actuating ent:
1. In a box making machine, a bed upon which a box blank is placed and moves, supports therefor, a plurality of carriers upon said bed connected to move a box blank at right angles by successive movements to bring all the side edges of the blank into contact with bending devices which are arranged in pairs each pair at right angles to the other, said bending devices, and means connected to move the carriers, substantially as described.
2. In a box making machine, a bed'upon which a box blank is placed and moves, supports therefor, guides upon said bed to guide successive movements of a box blank said guides arranged in pairs and each pair extending at right angles to the other pair, a plurality of carriers connected to be moved and to move a box blank by successive movements each movement in direction at right angles to the other, and bending devices arranged in pairs each pair extending at right angles to the other to engage with and bend the opposite side edges of a box blank when said blank is moved into engagement therewith by the carriers, substantially as described.
3. In a box making machine, a bed upon whicha box blank is placed and moves, supports therefor, guides arranged in pairs upon said bed each pair at right angles to the other-to guide successive movements of a box blank each movement at right angles to the other, bending devices connected to said guides to bend the opposite edges o'f said box blank when the blank is moved for ward, a plurality of carriers connected to be moved at right angles each to the other, and
mechanism to simultaneously reciprocate said carriers to bring opposite side edges of a box blank into engagement with the bending devices, substantially as described.
4. In a box making machine, a bed upon which a box blank is placed and moves, guides upon said bed arranged in pairs each pair connected to guide blanks at right angles to the other in the successive movements of the blanks, a plurality of carriers to be reciprocated and to move a box blank forward and the side edges of said blank into contact with bending devices which are arranged in pairs each pair at right angles to the other pair, said bending devices, and
means to prevent the backward movement of the box blank when the carriers are moved backward, substantially as described.
5. In a box making machine, a bed upon which a box blank is placed and moves, supports therefor, a plurality of carriers to move a box blank into successive engagement with edge bending devices arranged at right angles each to the other, said edge bending devices mechanism to reciprocate said carriers, and connections between said medium, substantially as described.
(3. In a box making machine, a bed upon which a box blank is placed and moves, supports therefor, a plurality of reciprocating carriers having a movement at right angles each to the other and connected to move a box blank into contact with-edge bending devices which are arranged in pairs each pair at right angles to the other, said edge bending devices, gear connections to be moved in synchronism, and adjustable connections between said gear connections and said carriers to move the latter, substantially as described.
7. In a box making machine, a bed upon which a box blank is placed and moves, supports therefor, guide flanges secured in pairs to said bed and each pair arranged at right angles to the other, a carrier intermediate of each pair of said flanges, a blank bending block upon each flange and provided with inclined surfaces to bend the opposite edges of the blank upward and downward upon said carrier, a shoulder .upon each of said bending blocks to prevent the backward movement of the blank, and means to move each carrier backward and forward upon the bed in a plane parallel with the guide flanges between which it is placed and moves, substahtially as described.

10. In a box making-@machine a bed upon which abox blank is placed and moves, supports therefor, slots formed through said bed and extending atiright angles to each other, a plurality of cttrrlers to move a box blank and connected to lugs extending through the slots, connected actuating members, and connections between said members and the lugs upon the carriers to move the latter backward and forward in unison, bending blocks to be ,contacted by the box blanks upon said carriers, and guide flanges to guide the edges of said blanks into contact withthe bending blocks substantially as described.
I1. In a box making machine acarrier comprising a plate having a reduced portion to extend above a box blank upon a bed, a shoulder to engage the edge of said blank to move theysame, inclined portions upon. said carriers to form knife edges thereon, and a pendant lug connected to said carrier and extending thence through a slot in the bed of the machine, in combination with said bed, the slot formed therethrough, guide flanges at opposite sides of and equi-distant from said slot, and blank bending blocks secured to said flanges, substantially as described.
12. In a box making machine a bed, a plurality of guide flanges arranged in pairs upon said bed each pair, extending at an angle to the other, a plurality of boxblank carriers each carrier placed to be movedbetween the parallel guide flanges which con stitute a pair and each carrier connected to be moved at angles to the other, a box blank bending device upon each guide" flange said bending device having an inclined face to turn the edge of a box blank upward and an.
inward projection having inclined faces to turn said edge lnward and downward upon the carrier, and mechanism to move said carriers in unison, substantially asdesoribed.
13. In a box making machine a bed upon which a box blank is placed and moves, a
carrier to be moved upon said bed to bring abox blank into connection with blank bend-- ing blocks, blank bending blocks comprising inclined surfaces to bend a blank upwardly inwardly and downwardly upon the carrier by which said blank is moved, means to return the blank to its normal flat condition after the side edges thereof have been turned as described, and mechanism to move the carrier backward and forward, substantially as described.
14. In a box making machine a bed upon which a box blank is placed and moves, a primary carrier to move said blank forward, guide 'flanges'at each side of and equi-distant from said carrier, bending mechanism connected to said guide flanges to bend the side edges of a box blank upward inward and downward upon said primary carrier, a
secondary carrier to move said blank at right angles to the primary carrier, guide flanges at each side of and equi-distant from said secondary carrier, bending mechanism connected to said latter side flanges to bend the remaining edges of the box blank upward inward and downward upon said secondary-carrier, and mechanism interposed between the primary carrier and bending mechanism and said secondary carrier'and bending ,Tmechanism to, return the blank edges bent upward by the primary bending mechanism to flat condition to pass below the secondary carrier substantially as described.
15. In a box making machine a bed upon which a box blank is placed and moves, a
carrier to be moved and to move'a blank forward into contact with bending mechanism, said bending mechanism comprising a block havin a forwardly and downwardly inclined sur ace to turn said blank upward against the carrier and an inward projection having an inclined lower surface to turn said blank edge down upon the carrier, in combination with a block having an upwardly inclined'forward-end' to return the upwardly turned edges ofthe blank to flat condition, substantially as described.
16. In a box making machine, a bed upon which a box blank is placed and moves, supports therefor, guide flanges upon said bed supports'therefor, guide flanges upon said bed to guide a box blank to side bending mechanism, and said side bending mechanism, in combination with a magazine sup ported upon said guide flanges tohold a number of box blanks, a reciprocating carrier to move a box blank into contact with the bending mechanism, arms connected to said carrier to be moved below the lowermost blank in said magazine, and fingers upon said arms to engage and remove said lowermost blank from the magazine, substantially as described.
18. In a box making machine a bed upon which a box blank is placed and moves, guide flanges to guide said blank to side bending mechanism, a carrier to move a 'blank forward to said bending mechanism, a discharge aperture in said bed, and mechanism actuated by the carrier to move the box blanks downward through said aperture to discharge the same from the ma chine, substantially as described.
19. .In a box making machine, a bed upon which a box blank is placed and moves, guide flanges to guide said blank to side bending mechanism, an aperture formed through the bed in advance of said bending mechanism to discharge a blank, a rock shaft journaled beside said aperture, rock arms connected to said shaft to be swung downward and through the aperture in the bed, a connecting rod to rotate the rock shaft to move; said arms, a shoulder upon said rod, a reciprocating carrier to move a blank into contact with the bending blocks and a blank from said bending blocks into position above the aperture to be moved therethrough, and a stud upon said carrier to strike the shoulder of the connectin rod to rotate the rock shaft and move t e rock arms thereon downward to move the blank through the aperture, substantially as described.
20. In a box making machine a bed to receive a box blank, carriers upon said bed connected to be moved and to move said blank, means substantially as described to cause successive movements of said blank to be at angles each to the other, and non-movable bending devices connected to bend the side edges of said blank to form the sides and ends of a box'when the blanlf is brought into contact with said bending devices during its forward movement upon the bed of the machine, as and for the purpose set forth.
21. In a box making machine a bed to receive a box blank, carriers upon said bed connected to be moved and to move said blank, means substantially as described whereby successive movements of the blank are caused to be at angles each to the other, and non-movable bending devices arranged parallel to the path in which the blank is moved upon the bed to bend the edges of the blank to form the sides and ends of a box when the blank is moved into contact with said non-movable bending devices, as and for the purpose specified.
22. In a box making machine a bed'to receive a box blank, a plurality of blank moving carriers each thereof connected to be moved and to move a box blank, and a plurality of non-movable bending devices each arranged parallel to the path in which the blank is moved upon the bed to. be contacted with by the side and end edges of the blank in its forward movements and to bend the same to form the sides and ends of a box, substantially as described.
23. In a box making machine a bed upon which a box blank is placed and moves, a plurality of blank moving carriers upon said bed connected to be moved at angles each to the other and to move the box blank, guides arranged in the plane of movement of the carriers to keep the blank in its proper course when moved, and non movable blank bending devices arranged parallel with the guides to be successively contacted by the blank in its forward movement and to bend all the sides of said blank to form the sides and ends of a box, substantially as described.
24. In a box making machine, a bed upon which a box blank is placed and moves, a plurality of independent blank moving devices upon said bod each thereof connected to be moved at an angle to the remaining devices, guide flanges arranged parallel to each other and at opposite sides of the box blank moving devices, and bending devices upon each of the guide flanges to contact with the edges of a box blank when said blank is moved forward by the blank moving devices, substantially as described.
25. In a box making machine, a bed upon which a box blank is placed and moves, independent box blank moving devices upon said bed each thereof connected to be moved at an angle to the others, adjustable guide flanges extending at opposite sides of said blank moving devices, blank bending devices upon said guide flanges, and means to impart motion to the blank moving devices to bring the blanks upon said moving devices into contact with said guide flanges and the bending devices thereon, substantially as described.
