Application led April 29, 1910. Serial No. 558,386.
To dl ifi/0m 'it may concern.'
`13e 1t known that l, JonN A. lvICKiNNA, a Citizen ot the United States ot' America,
residingr at (haften, in the county of Allegheny and State ot' Pennsylvania, have invented eertain new and useful, Improvements)I in Faucets, of which the tfollowirnjr is a speeitieation, reterenee being had therein to the aeetnnpanying drawing.
Thia invention relates to t'aueets, and more particularly to that type of faucet or spigot used in Connection with barrele` and liege, the t'aucet normally remaining eloaed and havingy a detaehable aetuating lever or Vliey that ran be used tor opening the taut-.et whereby the contents ol a barrel or keg ean be withdrawn.
The object, oli' my invention is to provide an actuating lever or ltey that will be positive in Vits action, thu.-l preventini" the valve stein ot' the latuxet or the hey trom being injured o r unduly worn, to an extent whieh Vwill render the ltey useleas Vt'or the. purponenI 'for whieh it` iS intended. ln eonneetion with this type, ot? faucet, it has heen the present inactiee to use a ltey having a blunt or laquarell end tor engaging a shoulder of the valve stem in order that when the hey if; rocked or moved in the t'aueet body, the valve laten: will be shifted to open the faucet. llt is the movement ot the key against the shoulder oil the valve stem that eventually w x,ars the Contacting' fsurfaeeA ol the key and Shoulder that eansesI the end ot' the key to Slip upon the Aahoulder and l'ail to l'iositively move the valve yStem. 'lhe move ment ot' the key also weara the laneet body to ,aueh an extent that; lhe'ltev ol'ten nliph ott' ot theI shoulder and wedges: between the valve stein and the taueet body. and aa the IQtem is .apring-presged, it; is olten dillieult to remove the hey. Bef-idea it heinev nettes-:ary to renew the key, it` ifa often neeesxary to renew the valve Stem, and it is this det'eet in eonieetion with the present' type ot Vl'aueet that my invention aime to obviate b v providing a keythat will ponitively engage and moveI the valve stem without unduly Suhieetin;- the name to wear and tear by the art ion olA the ltey.
My invention will he more tullv under- I#toed when rel'ertenee had to the drawing1 termini; a. part ot this yQpeeitieation, wherein there iillustrated a lnet'erred embodiment ol' the invention. hutl it is to he understood. that the saine it; suf-'eeptible to varial l l l l l l l l tions without, t'leparting :from the scope of the appended elalni.
tn the drawings: Figure l is a side elevation ol a laueet eonatrueted in accordance with my invention. Fig. is a longitudinal sectional view ol the salue showing the key in adjusted position in dotted lines. Fig. il iS a` eross seetional view ol the faucet) allowing;A the key ft is a horizontal Set-.tional view ol' the key showing the fame in engagement with the valve stem, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view ol" the hey.
