To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, James B. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brady, in the county of McCulloch and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Neck-Yoke or Tongue Attachment, of which the following is a specification.

This invention pertains to improvements in breast-bars, yokes, or tongue attachments, and, while it is particularly designed for Wheeled cultivating implements, it is also adaptable for use in connection with any type of breast-bar, neck-yoke or tongue and pole equipped vehicles.

The invention has for its object, particularly, to provide for the retention of the tongue or pole in fixed relation with respect to the breast-bar or yoke, as against the upwardly thrusting of the forward end of the pole or tongue, when lifting or pulling the plow or plows out of the ground.

A further object is to provide for balancing the plow or implement from the pole or tongue, also to prevent lateral wabbling motion of the tongue or pole, as well as upward and downward or vertical motion thereof.

A still further object is to provide for readily accommodating the device to the character or size of the team.

A still further object is to minimize the number of parts employed, especially in aplying the device for practical use.

A still further object is to carry out the aforesaid ends in a simple, expeditious and effective manner.

The invention consists of certain instrumentalities and features substantially as hereinafter fully described and defined by the claim.

In the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention wherein it will be understood that various changes or modifications may be made as relates to the detailed construction and arrangement of the parts, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Figure 1 is a perspective of the device as applied for use in connection with a pole or draft-bar and a breast-bar or yoke. Fig. 2 is a front view of the device, the draft pole or tongue being omitted, also the breast-bar attaching straps.

pole or draft-bar 2 and a breast-bar or yoke 3, the tongue and breast-bar being or ordinary or preferred construction. Said rigid connection is designed to hold the tongue or draft-bar fixed with respect to and distant from the breast-bar or yoke as against the upwardly thrusting action of the forward end of the tongue, as occurs particularly in wheeled cultivating implements, or cultivators, as the operator lifts or pulls the plow or plows out of the ground as is a matter of experience. This fixed connection includes a metal plate bracket 1, preferably of approximately semielliptieal outline adapted to hold the breast-bar or yoke in elevated fixed relation with respect to the tongue or draft-bar, the central preferably short straight or horizontal portion l having the tongue or pole connected or secured thereto. This connection is preferably effected by a combined clip and bolt 4 with its clip member designated as 4, embracing the tongue or pole 2 and its nut equipped bolt member 4: passing through and held by its nut to the straight portion 1 of the bracket 1. The upper portions or ends 1 of the bracket 1, also straight or extending horizontally, are suitably held to the breastbar or yoke 3 at its ends, by means of the usual clips 5 embracing the latter and having its nut equipped portions passed through transverse yoke plates 5 applied to the underside of said breast-bar.

The breast-bar or yoke 3 is preferably connected to the horse collars by buckleequipped short strap members 6, in lieu of connecting the same to breast-straps as now commonly done, thus obviating the use of this additional member or breast-strap. The strap members 6 are suitably passed through openings or slots 7 formed by recessing the breast-bar near its ends, at points facing the end horizontal or straight portions of the breast-bar, which openings or slots are preferably duplicated or two in number, at each end of the breast-bar to allow of shifting the point of attachment of the strap members, as conditions may suggest. It is also noted that the bracket member 1 may be suitably adjusted along the tongue or draft-bar to accommodate the device to any sized team.

It will be further apparent from the foregoing disclosure, taken in connection with the accompanying illustration or drawing,

that my invention is applicable, as already I stated, in connection with any wheeled cultivating implement or any tongue or pole equipped vehicle as will be readily appreciated, for accomplishing the desired end, as hereinbefore stated; also whereby the forward end of said pole or tongue will be prevented from being carried to a point above or in contact with the horses or animals heads, as is common in the ordinary devices employed for this purpose. Also, by means of this invention laterally oscillating or wabbling movement of the tongue, pole or draft-bar is prevented, while in wheeled cultivating implements the shovel or plow is carried in a balance position, out of contact with the ground.

WVhat is claimed is A device of the character described, including a draft-bar, a neck-yoke forming member, and an inflexible bracket forming member between and connected to said draft-bar and said neck-yoke forming memher and being of approximately semi-ellip tical outline, said bracket member. being adapted to hold said draft-bar fixed with respect to, and distant from said draft-bar.
