Be it known that I, TnoivrAs RICHARD CANNING, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 135437 Great Hampton' street, Birmingham, Varwickshire, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in'Electroplating Apparatus, of which the following vis a specification.
This invention relates to an electro-plating apparatus specially intended for dealing with small quantities of work at one time, without vthe necessity of wiring the articles in the'usual manner.
The improved apparatus consists mainly of a perforated earthenware or other nonmetallic receptacle for holding the articles to be plated, of a holder for carrying the said receptacle immersed in the bath, and of means for rot-ating the said holder, the
.whole apparatus being designed to be fixed on ythe wall of an ordinary wooden or other plating vat.
In a suitable form of apparatus I provide a bracket which may be fixed to the plating vat by means of, say, coach screws or bolts and which is provided with an inclined bearing in which the rotary spindle for carrying the receptacle is mounted, and a bearing for a horizontal driving spindle having upon it fast and loose pulleys and a Worm engaging with a worm-wheel onthe upper end of the inclined spindle. Z is the perforated earthenware or other non-metallic receptacle for containing the "articles to be plated, the said receptacle having formed integral with it a handle m for facilitating the handling thereof. This receptacle Z, which is flanged at its upper edge, is carried in a metal rmg n provided with an insulating covering 0 to prevent it from corroding, the said ring n being provided with trunnions p, p carried in bearings g, g at the endspf the arms c, Z: 'so that the ring can swing therein. These trunnions 79, p have also fixed to them arms r, 7 at the free end of which are arranged sliding spring pins s, s, the inner ends of which are adapted to lock into holes or notches formed in the arms c, 7c for the purpose of retain'- ing the receptacle l in the inclined position with respect to the bath as indicated.
The disengagement of the pins s, s from the arms 7c, c allows of the receptacle Z swinging to an` upright position as indicated by the dot and dash lines invFig. 1, so that the receptacle can be readily lifted out of the ring a and replaced.

With this arrangement it will be understood how the receptacle Z can be readily introduced and removed by operating the pins s, s and the clip o. Instead of two spring pins s, s 011e only may be employed.
It will be understood that other means than those described may be employed for connecting the receptacle Z to the spindle (Z, for instance, the arms la, 7c may be provided at their extremities with hooks or slots with which lugs on the ring n may be engaged, in which case the receptacle with the ring upon it would be disengaged from the said arms while in the inclined position.
The improved apparatus serves not only for electro-plating articles, but also for polishing.

In an electro-plating apparatus the combination with an inclined spindle, carriedv ina bearing adapted to be fixed to the wall of an electro-plating tank, `of means for rotating said spindle, of armss'ecured to the lower end of said spindle, of a ring pivoted to said arms and capable of a relative movementthereto, and o a receptacle carried in said ring.

An electro-plating ap aratus comprising a bracket provided with `a pluralityl of bearings, ashaft provided with a worm mounted 1n one of said bearings, a spindle 4 mounted in the other of said bearings, said y spindle being provided with a worm wheel which meshes with .said worm, arms secured to -said spindle, a ring pivoted in said armsf and capable of movement relative thereto, and a receptacle carried by said rlng.
