RESONATING DEVICE.

To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, GUSTAV AnoLr WVLosT, workmaster, a subject of the King of Prussia, residing at Schramberg, 1n the Kingdom of WVurttemberg, Germany, have invented a certain new and useful Resonating Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to a resonator for clocks of the kind in which a number of bars, tubes or the like are adapted to be struck by hammers. In these resonating devices the bars, tubes or the like have heretofore been arranged side by side and parallel with the back wall of the clock case or at right angles to this case, one behind the other. The first arrangement presents the defect that it is very diflicult to mount the hammers while in the second case it 1s necessary to make the clock case deeper. The latter is especially disadvantageous as in this case the whole of the clock case must be deeper, thereby of course increasing the cost of the clock and in addition the exter nal appearance of the clock may readily suffer in view of the deepening of the case. These defects are obviated by the present invention owing to the fact that the carrier for the resonator serving for the reception of the rods, tubes or the like is arranged obliquely to the wall of the case, the first rod or the like being arranged as closely as possible to the rear wall of the case. Now as it almost always happens that in making the resonator the bores in the support for the rods, tubes or the like are not perfectly parallel with the rear wall of the casing while in addition it is very seldom that the rods are perfectly straight so that after fitting, the rods located nearest to the rear wall of the casing frequently touch or bear against it, in order to avoid this the support for the resonator is adjustably fixed to the rear wall of the casing. This renders it possible to arrange the support after fitting in such a position that it is impossible for the rearmost rod to touch or bear against the rear wall and this without bending the rod itself which prejudicially affects its tone.

In the construction illustrated the resonator consists of the support a formed in the known manner as a hollow body in which the rods Z) are fixed. They are fixed in the known manner by means of the set screws 0. The portion of the support a extendin toward the interior of the clock case is oblique toward its base in such a manner that when fixed to the rear wall of the clock case it forms an acute angle therewith. In addition the arrangement of the rods 6 is such that the rearmost rod comes as close as possible to the rear wall of the casing (Z. The resonator is fixed to the rear wall of the easing by means of a plate 6 which is screwed to the outside of this rear wall. This plate is provided with a protuberance f passing through a corresponding bore in the wall of the casing and against which the support a is drawn and held by means of a screw 9. In addition to the screw 9 a number of screws it (three for example) are provided in the plate a and serve to regulate the interval between the gong support and the wall and its position relatively therewith.
WVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In combination with a casing portion, of a resonating device therefor comprising a plurality of rod-like members arranged in substantial parallel relation with respect to each other, and means supporting said members on the casing portion at an oblique angle thereto with one of said rod-like members in relatively close proximity to said casing portion.
2.
