MILK-STRAINER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ED\VARD O. GARROW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Richmond, county of Chittenden, State of Vermont, h ave. invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milk-Strainers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in milk strainers, the main object being to provide a strainer in which the strainer proper is detachably mounted whereby a new strainer can be readily inserted, thereby increasing the life of the same.

Another object of the invention is to provide a milk strainer having a body provided with an annular seat upon which the strainer proper is adapted to be secured by a pivoted member in such a manner that the strainer can be easily and quickly detached in order to clean the same or to insert a strainer having a finer or coarser mesh.

A further object of the invention is'to provide a novel form of strainer which is provided with means for holding the straining cloth in position thereon whereby the same can be readily removed.

In carrying out my improved invention, I employ a funnel-shaped body 1 which is provided with an annular inwardly projecting horizontal flange 2 at its lower end and has secured thereto a spout 3 by any suitable means, the outer edges of the body and spout being provided with reinforcing beads in order to strengthen the same. flange 2 forms a seat on its under side for the strainer proper 4 which is held in position within the spout by a lug 5 and a pivoted locking member 6 oppositely arranged and adapted to engage the straining member 4 at opposite points. The locking member 6 is pivotally mounted as shown at 7 and is provided with a flanged oblique free end 8 adapted to engage the strainer proper and force the same firmly in position. The looking member is held in engagement with the strainer proper by a pivoted latch 9 co-acting with a pin 10 arranged within the spout. The latch 9 is provided with a flange 11 to facilitate the moving of the same and one edge of the locking member is also provided with a flange 12 for the same purpose.

The strainer proper comprises a circular frame 13 which is in the form of a ring and has its inner face annularly grooved as shown at 14 into which is adapted to be forced the marginal portion of a strainer cloth 15 by a spring clamping ring 16 as clearly shown which securely holds the straining cloth 15 within the frame and in such a manner that the same can be readily detached in order to insert a new cloth or to insert a clot-h of different mesh to enable the strainer to be used for different purposes and the strainer 17, as herein shown, comprises a circular perforated plate.

It will be seen that I have not only provided means for removing the strainer proper from the body but have provided means for renewing the strainer cloth within the strainer frame.

I/Vhile I have shown and described a split spring ring for securing the cloth to the frame, it is, of course, understood that various other forms of retaining members may be employed without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having described my invention and set forth its merits what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A milk strainer comprising a body having a seat, a spout carried by said body, a lug carried by said spout and spaced from said seat, a strainer frame adapted to be arranged on said seat over said lug, and a pivoted locking member for engaging said strainer frame and holding the same in position therein.

2. A strainer formed of a body having a spout, said body being provided with an annular flange, a strainer frame adapted to engage said flange, a fixed member for holding said frame against said flange at one side, and a pivoted member arranged opposite to said fixed member for holding said frame.

3. A strainer comprising a body and spout, a detachable strainer frame mounted therein, a fixed member for supporting said frame, a pivoted locking member for engaging said frame, and a latch carried by said locking member co-act-ing with a pin carried by said spot.

4-. A strainer comprising a frame having a grooved inner face, a strainer cloth arranged within said frame, and a retaining member for holding said cloth Within said groove.

5. The combination with a body, of a detachable strainer arranged therein, a fixed member for engaging oneedge of said strainer, and a pivoted member for engaging the opposite edge of said strainer, said pivoted member having a pivoted latch carried thereby for holding the same in locked position.

6. A strainer comprising a circular frame having a groove in its inner edge, a strainer cloth arranged within said frame, and a spring ring for forcing and holding the marginal portion of said strainer cloth within the groove of said frame.

7. A milk strainer comprising a funnelshaped body terminating at its lower end in an annular inwardly projecting horizontal flange, a spout carried by said body, a lug carried by said spout and spaced from said flange, a strainer arranged in said spout between said flange and lug, a pivotally mounted locking member mounted in said spout having an oblique end for engaging the strainer, a pivoted latch carried by said locking member, and a pin fixed in said spout adapted to be engaged by said latch.
