Letters Patent No. 101,950, dated April 12, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN GRAIN-SCOURERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VALENTIN WEISMANTEL, of Belleville, in the county of St. Clair and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement on a Grain-Scourer; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the constructionand operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making part of this specification, in which i Figure 1 is a perspective view, and
Figure 2 is a transverse section.
The scourer consists of a conical drum, a, covered with lip-punched sheet-iron, revolving on a shaft, h, driven by a pulley, 0, within the stationary shell I), covered on its inside with same description of sheethen; this shell I) made in halves and held in place by being fastened to top plate 6 and bottom plate 11, the whole mounted upon an ordinary suitable frame 0.
Grain is admitted byt-he spout d, and received upon the dished top plate f, of revolving cone a, wherefrom it is evenly discharged by centrifugal force over its extremities between the rubbing or scouringsurfaces of revolving cone (0 and stationary shell b,.and after passing through the securing process falls to the bottom 2,- and is discharged at spout g.
The grain -operated upon by this machine will be caused to remain between the securing surfaces for a respectively longer space of time than in other upright scourers heretofore in use, and will, by its re sistance on the face of the revolving cone, relieve the toe of the upright shaft of part of its weight, thereby eeonomizing power in driving the machine.
The space between the faces of the cones can be regulated by lever K and hand-wheel L acting upon the center-lift tallow-pot m, of bridge-tree n.
The shaft is supported above in adjustable bearings p. i
I claim as my invention The conical drum a and shell I), constructed substantially as described, in combination with the lever K, screw L, and step m, arranged substantially as set forth, for the purpose of regulating the amount of space between the drum a and shell b,.'as specified.
