To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRISON I). STER- moK, a citizen of the United States,'rcsiding at Pittsburgh, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shaving-Brushes, of which the following is a specification.

The primary object of my invention is to provide a shaving brush with an attached massage device to soften the beard and to provide for easily withdrawing the brush into a holder, simultaneously removing some of the lather and water and prein shape and protecting it from dirt.

I'have illustrated the invention in several forms in the accompanying drawingin which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the preferred form and Fig. 2 is an end elevation. Fig. 3 is a partial section with the brush withdrawn into the casing. Fig. 4 is a side elevation and Fig. 5 an end view of a modification. Figs. 6 and 7 are longitudinal sections showing other forms of withdrawing devices.

There have been heretofore shaving brushes and telescoping casings, and again handles having a brush on one side and a massage device on the other. In my device the brush is in a telescoping casing and said casing carries, at the same end with the brush a massage tool which has the triple function, of rubbing the face, of providing an upright base for standing the brush to drain or preventing it touching the table when laid down sidewise, and of preventing water running onto the hand in using the brush. Thus in Figs. 1, 2-,

and 3, the bristles 8 are inc'losed in a sliding casing 9 which has on the outer end a cup-shaped disk 10 made of rubber or the like and held on by ribs 10 on the casing 9. In the position of Fig. 3, the proper handle of the brush 11, is drawn backward, by sliding of the spring tongue 12 out'of the groove 13 and engaging a groove 13, the brush 8- being entirely withdrawn into the case 9. After'massag'ing the face the handle 1]. is slid forward until the spring catch 12 again rests in groove 13 and the brush is protruded, whereupon the brush is used as is customary. It will be noted that the disk 10 now serves to prevent lather and water running down on to the hand and also allows of laying the brush down without touching the bristles 8, as well as standing the brush upright so as to easily drain. Upon withdrawing the brush again into the case 9, the lather and water is partially squeezed out and the brush may he stood upon the disk 10 as a base, in which position it is easily drained and is protected fromdirt.

In the form of Figs. 4 and 5, the casing 9 is provided with a massage disk 14 provided with rubber teeth or bristles 15, otherwise it is the same as before.

In order that the device may be a more compact package, for traveling convenience, I may use either of the devices of Figs. 6 and 7, whose operation will be apparent, In Fig. 6 the brush is extended or retracted by a series of lazy tongs 2O operated by a nut 21 fixed thereon and engaging a screw 22. In both Figs. 6 and 7, the casing 16, it will be understood, is pro vided with a massage device as in F ig. 3. In Fig. 7, the short head 17 of the brush slides back to the end of the case 16 by engagement of the staple 18 with a folding link 19 acting be observed is in the center line of the brush when extended and when the brush is withdrawn may lie flat against thecasing 16. The advantages of the device will readily occur to those familiar with the use of shaving brushes.

Having thus described my its use, I claim the following:
