To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, NORMAN SEDDON BROWN and J AMES I-IARDAORE, British subj ects, both residing at WVigan, in the county of Lancaster, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thread-Guides or Lappets for Spinning and" Doubling Frames, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved construction of lappet for the thread rails of spinning frames or doubling frames. Such lappets are now commonly made with an adjustable thread wire with a curl or thread eye at the end; or with a sliding wire or sheet metal plate carrying a porcelain e'ye formed with a radial slot.
This invention consists essentially .of a hinged lappet of plate or box form constructed with an adjustable sliding metal guide plate the free end of which is formed with a guide slit cut in the metal of the plate of angular or hook shape through which the yarn enters. It will be fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings forming part of the specification.

The lappet is constructed with a bracket A to be affixed to the beam or rail A and a flap B of rectangular shape hinged or pivoted thereto in the ordinary way. The hinged flap B is constructed either of a plate with side flanges b to act as guides for an adjustable metal guide plate C or it may be of box shape to embrace the guide plate G. The front portion of the adjustable metal guide plate C is preferably cut away at opposite'sides, thereby producing a forwardly extending projection wherein an angular guide slit 0 is cut to guide the thread or yarn to the spindle. The outer branch of this slot extends inwardly and forwardly from one of the lateral edges of said projection, and the inner branch thereof extends rearwardly and in a direction longitudinally of said plate,thereby giving the projection a hooked form or appearance. The slit 0 should be as narrow as possible to admit the thread Specification of Letters Patent.

The adjustable metal guide plate 0 is provided at its opposite side edges, rearwardly of the aforementioned projection wherein slit 0 is formed, with depending flanges c3 which fit between and cooperate with the adjacent flanges b on flap B. One of said flanges b has its lower longitudinal edge turned 01' bent inwardly and upwardly to produce achannel wherein the adjacent flange c is supported, while the other flange b is provided with a perforation which registers with a longitudinal slot formed in the other flange 0 a bolt being passed through said slot and perforation to retain the guide plate in adjusted position. A snarl catcher I) of ordinary form may be hinged or pivoted to the side of the metal guide plate 0 or it may be stamped out of and form part of the plate.
The supporting bracket A is preferably provided with forwardly projecting arms a, upon whose free terminals the flap B movably rests. may, as shown, be formed with a pair of longitudinal slots 0*, through which the forward ends of said arms extend.
lVhat we claim as our invention and desire to protect by Letters Patent is 1. In a lappet, the combination of a movably mounted flap provided at its opposite sides with depending flanges, one of which has its free lower edge bent inwardly and upwardly to produce a supporting channel, the other flange having a perforation formed therethr'ough, an adjustable guide plate also provided with depending side flanges, one of the second-named flanges having its lower edge supported in said channel, while the other second-named flange is formed with a longitudinal slot registering with said perforation, and a bolt passed through said slot and perforation for retaining the guide plate in adjusted position, the forward portion of said guide plate having a guide slit formed therein.

upon the terminals of said arms, said flap being provided at its opposite sides with depending flanges, one of which has its free lower edge bent inwardly and upwardly to produce a supporting channel, the other flange having a perforation formed therethrough, an adjustable guide plate also provided with depending side flanges, one of the second-named flanges having its lower edge supported in said channel, while the other second-named flange is formed with a longitudinal slot registering with said perforation, and a bolt passed through said slot and perforation for retaining the guide plate in adjusted position, the forward portion of said guide plate having a guide slit formed therein and the rear portion of said guide plate being formed with longitudinal slots through which the forward ends of said arms project.
' 3. In a lappet, the combination of a 111OV- able mounted flap provided at its opposite sides with depending flanges, one of which has its free lower edge bent inwardly and upwardly to produce a supporting channel,
the other flange having a perforation formed therethrough, an adjustable guide plate also provided with depending side flanges, one of the second-named flanges having its lower edge supported in said channel, while the other second-named flange is formed with a longitudinal slot registering with said perforation, and a bolt passed through said slot and perforation for retaining the guide plate in adjusted position, the forward portion of said guide plate having an angular guide slit formed therein, the outer branch of which extends inwardly and forwardly from one of the lateral edges of said guide plate, while the inner branch extends rearwardly and in a direction longitudinally of said guide plate.
