To a? Z 'whomit may concern Be it known that I. GAIL'S C. Moons, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and Statc'of New York, have invented a new and Improved Loose-Leaf Binder, of which the following is a specification. 'This invention .relates to that class of loose leaf binders known as expansion binders, the object being to provide a construc- ,tion permitting the use of leaves having closed holes rather than what' are known as open slotted holes. In carrying out my invention I mayxprovide an expansion binder of any of the well known forms with an impaling'post'carry ing plate hinged to one of the frame members, such plate carrying the usual telescoping impaling 119stmembers cooperating with other impaling post members, telescoping therewith in the usual way. and carried by a second plate which.may be removably secured to the opposite frame piece ofthe' binder and, when thus secured to such opposite frame piece, the binder is operative by the expansion mechanism thereof in the -nsnal way. \Vhen it is desired to insert or': remove a leaf or leaves from the binder. the removable impaling post carr \'ingplate is Unlocked and disengaged from the frame work ofthe binder. while the two impaling post carrying plates remain however in proper relative positions and with the posts carried thereby cooperatively telescoping and engaging through the leaves in the binder, the impaling posts and the"leaves thereon and the binder frame are then swung relatively to each other upon the hinged connection between the first nalnet impaling post carrying plate and the frame piece to which it is pivotally (aninectcd. after which the removable impaling post carrying plate can be removed with any desired number of the leaves in engagement over the posts carried tl1ereb v.,thus atlording an opportunity for the removal or insertion of leaves at any desired point-in the binder.
In the accompanying drawings. without however limiting myself in the application of my invention to any particular style. of construction of loose leaf binder. T have shown my invention as applied to an expanhinged post carrying plate.

The accompanying drawings illustrating such a binder embodying my invention are asfollows: Figure '1 is a view of the back of the binder with the coverinembers and leaves removed. Fig. 2 is a sectionalview taken along the line a:--y' of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken along the line .r' -;z of Fig. 1, but with the frame-members moved relatively from each other. Fig. 4 is an end view of the parts shown in Fig. 1, but with the frame members moved relatively from each other and with' the i mpaling posts swung outwardly. Fig. 5 is a detail showing the m -ans,for locking the removable post carrying plate in the-binder back. F ig. (3 is a detail view of the means for locking the binder against expansion. Fig. 7 is a view. similar to Pig. 1, of the lower frame member seen in Fig. 1 and the postscarried thereby with the removable plate and posts carried thereby shown removed from coop ftn'ative engagmnentjwith the posts on the Fig.8 is an end view of the binder opened and with the removable plate and part of the leaves removed. the latter being shown in perspective and in reverse position in Fig. 9. Fig. 10 is a view of the member N from the under side with reference to Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings.-B and B" are the frame members carrying flanges b} which in turn carry the bosses c for the pivotal connection therewith of the cover leaf sections in the usual way. The frame members B and R havereinforcixig end plates 1) formed integrally therewith. To the member B there is secured near each end thereof, a rackR while to the member 13 there aresimilarly secured racks R. The racks R and R 'are substantially similar in construction and conformation but are oppositely positioned whereby the teeth carried by these racks are located on adjacent sides thereof with a space between them sutficient to receive in operative engagement the spnr gears g secured on the operating-shaft G extending longitudmally of the blnder in'Fig. '1 and having projections thereon relatively apart by the operation of the rod 'bers B and B.

On the shaft G there is provided a head mthreaded and secured thereon as indicated adapted to engage in suitable slots therefor in an operating key for turning the shaft G, such members forming no feature of my present invention are only illustrated and mentioned herein as comprising parts of the binder described in said above mentioned patent to which my invention is in the present. instance applied. A metallic block N is'fitted into the curved portion of the frame member B and is re ccs'sed at n to receive the head of the locking bolt P rotatably supported in the member N and in abracket. Itis believed from the foregoing description thatthe method of operation and use of my binder issutiiciently clear to call for no further explanation herein.
\Vhat I claim is:
1. In a loose leaf binder in combination with the frame members and the operating means for moving the same relatively to and from each other, an impaling post carrying plate hinged to one of said side members and a second plate carrying impaling posts adapted to telescope with the posts carried by the first plate to hold the leaves in the binder, such second plate removable from adapted to telescope with the posts carried movemeiit relatively from each other.
