To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK O. BERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Awning-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in awning fixtures having a roller at the top of the window on which the web of the awning is wound when not in use, and that when extended the web is disposed in a vertical position at the top, the lower portion being extended and held outwardly from a bar approximately in the middle of the window from top to bottom; and the objects of my invention are, to provide an awning that is simple in construction, easy to operate, and which when not in use can be reduced to a compact form so as to attract the least attention. I attain these objects by the arrangements of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical projection of the awning complete, Fig. 2 is a detail of connection of frame g with rod d, Fig. 8 is a plan of frame g, Fig. l is a plan of bracket le and end of rod y', showing the method of retaining the rod by the bracket, Fig. vis a vertical projection of a portion of the awning with bracket 7c removed, showing end of rod y' engaged by rod d; Fig. 6 is a plan of end of roller and bracket, Fig. 7 is a front view of roller bracket engaged by end of rod CZ, and Fig. 8 is a side view of the same bracket.

The web L of the awning is mounted upon spring roller which is an adaptation of the ordinary spring roller used for curtains; c is a bracket supporting the end of the roller, d is a rod mounted on bracket e having its upper end bent over bracket c and fastened at its lower end by a nut.

The awning web a may be drawn downward and released upward by a strap attached to the under side of the web. l
It will be understood that changes in details of construction may be made while retaining the essential features of my invention. For instance, a gravity or other form of roller may .be substituted for the spring roller.
Vhen the awning is released from the position shown in Fig. 1, the web is drawn upward by the spring roller, the rod sliding on rods fl, and the frame g being drawn upward on its pivot at f until in a vertical position, and then sliding upward on sleeve f until the web a is completely wound upon spring roller b, the rod having passed over the top of rods Z and been wound upon the roller with the web. Upon the web a. being drawn downward again, the frame g will slide downward upon rods d until f reaches the bracket e, when the frame g will fall outwardly and extend the lower portion of the web, and the rod j will slide downward upon rods d and engage brackets 7c, thus maintaining the upper' portion of the web in a vertical position while the lower portion is extended outwardly.
I claim:
1. The combination with an awning web of means for rolling and unrolling the web, means for extending outwardly the lower portion of the web when unrolled, a rod attached transversely to the web between its ends, and means for engaging the rod and holding the upper portion of the webin a vertical position when the lower portion is extended.
2. The combination with an awning web of a spring roller mounted at the upper end of the web, an outwardly extensible frame slidably mounted upon vertical rods, and means for holding the upper portion of the web in a vertical position when the lower portion is extended, consisting of a rod attached transversely to the web between its ends, and brackets engaging the ends of the rod when the awning is unrolled and the lower portion extended.
3. The combination with an awning web having means for rolling and unrolling the web, and for extending outwardly the lower portion of the web when unrolled, of a rod attached transversely to the web between its ends, slidably engaging vertical rods.
4. The Combination with an awning web having means for rolling and unrolling the web, and for extending outwardly the lower portion of the web, of a rod attached trans- Versely to the web between its ends, vertical rods engaging the ends of the transverse rod 10 FREDERICK O. BERG.
