Specification of Letters Patent. Patent-6d Feb. 2Q, 191% Application lillei llctohenll. 1910. Serial No. 586.489. i
or driers adapted for" use in conjunction. 'with hot Water boilers, steam pipes andv radiators by which the heat theretronmay be utilized for drying clothes, or the like. My invention has Ifor its object primarily to provide a form of drier of simple,linex-' pensive and eflicient construction which may be readily applied to hot water boilers, steam pipes and radiators for' supportingoclothes, towels. and various articles of household linens after being Washed and which is adapted to receive and transmit sucicnt heat there-v from for utilization in drying the wet articles, and this is accomplished by providing one or a plurality oi tubular devices or brackets having a substantially U-shaped body and a supporting arm which is adapted to be removably held t'o said boilers, steam pipes or radiators. t
"A further object of the invention is to provide etiicient means adapted to permit the tubular devices to be conveniently attached or detached from the boilers, pipes or radiators and which will allow a desired number of said devices to be simultaneously employed.
A. practical embodiment oi the invention is represented in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification in which similarcharacters ot reference indicate cor@ responding parts in all the views, the said vinvention being more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the appended claims.
ln the drawing, Figure 1 is an elevation of a hot `Water boiler With .my improved clothes drier applied thereto. .Figa 2 is an elevation of a. steam ipe showing the manner of using the clothes drier in conjunction therewith. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the device as applied to a radiator. Fig'. 4 is a top plait of a radiator showing the means for connecting the pipe thereto. Fig. 5 is a top plan of a strip or band formed of two members for attaching the drying deplan ot the fastening strip or band 'when integrally formed.
In practice my clothes drier 10 may be made in the desired siz'es so as to be applied to any hot Water boiler, or steam or hot ait pipe, as l1l of any diameter. The drier 10 consists mainly of a tubular device or bracket 12 and one or a plurality of strips or bands or supporting elements 13. The strips or bands 13 may be made of sheet metal or heavy Wire, the ends of `Which are bent outwardly' to form a tiange, as 14' and- 15, and in both of said tianges is provided anfopening through which is passed a thumb screw 16 for lirmly tightening the bands when directed around va hot water boiler or steam pipe. Each of the strips or bands or supporting elements 18 may be formed of a single piece of material or comprise two strips or members 17 and 1 8, each having an apertured flange upon the ends thereof which may be also connected by similar thumb screws. The strips 1-3 or members thereof are corrugated or provided at intervals with extending curved parts 20 so as to :torni a. plurality of spaces 21 between said curved parts and the boiler or pipey ivlen the strips are positioned thereon.
Through corresponding spaces 21 of each of the strips 13 is guidedrthe tubular vertically disposed supporting rod"22 \of the device or bracket 12 when it is desired to use one or more of said devices for drying purposes. Upon one end -ot' the tubular su porting rod 22 and disposed at a right ang e thereto is provided one arm 23 of a-substantially U-shaped'tubular body 24 which is /i'ormed by curvinga tube so as to provide a second arm 25 in spaced parallel relation from the arm 23, thus the devise may be substantially rectangular in form. The second arm 25 of the U-shaped tubular body 24 is provided with a` number ot' perforations or openings 26 for passage therethrough of the heat, which is received by the device 12 from a hot Water boiler or heated pi e and driven toward said perfor-ations by t e current of air passing through the open end of the tubular supporting rod 22 to and through the U-shaped tubular body 24 and out arm 25 thereof.
W hen the device 12 is used in conjunction with a radiator for utilizing the heat therevicesto a boilerI or pipe, and Fig. 6 is a top from to dry clothes, or other articles I eno-V ploy a, pipe or tuhular rod 26 Fig. 3 to which seid device is attached in the same manner when connected to a standing Steani or het waiter pipe. The tubular rod or suppoit 25, as indicated in the drawing, is preferably positioned adjacent to sind between the coils ot the radiator und through said tubular rod is formed an opening through which is guided the pin 27 ot :i clamp U pon one end of the pin 27 is u thumb screw 29 und upon the opposite end thereof is provided a head or flange 30 which is udsil'ited to cngage one or i'nOre of the coils ot the radiator oppoeite to the side uguinet. which the tubu lar rod 2S rests. The pin 2T is thereby di rected between two of the coils ot' the rudiutor so that Suid tubular rod 'will be tirinly held to the radiator in un upright position by simply tightening;r the tlnunb Screw QS).
In the foregoing description l hure einbodied the preferred 'forni otf in if' intention` but i do not wish to ne imderstood :is `liiniting,l n 'iyself thereto, :is I uni ziwnre thaty iuoditientions may he nitide therein without depart-ing Yfrom the principle or Sncritieiirer :my of the advantages oit this invention, thereir reserve to myself the right to multe Such changes :is fairly full within the Scope thereof.
