Nata/re and Objects of I the Invention.
The first part of my invention relates to the combination of a large cylinder (to be attached to a steamboiler) f loat, small cylinder, piston, spring, and rod, with a'globe or other valve located in the supply-pipe to the engines pump.A The object of this part of my invention is to regulate the supply ofwater to the pump with which the boiler is supplied by the quantity of water in the boiler.
The second part of my invent-ion relates tothe combination ot'au alarm with the large cylinder and float. The object of this part oi' my invention is to give warning of accident in the pump or failure of supplywater.

Gene/ml Description.
A is the large cylinder, made strong enough to resist the pressure of steam, and connected with the boiler or steam-generator by the steam-pipe Q above the true water-line, and below the alarm waterline by the water-pipe K, thus' permitting the water in the cylinder to assume the same level with that in the boiler.
F is the float, which rises and falls with the water in the cylinder.
G is a stem, secured to the top of the float, working freely in the. guide-pipe C, and connected with a valve at its upper extremity.
0, is a valve in the head V of the large cylinder.
B is a small cylinder that is. attached to the head of the large cylinderand contains a piston, P, which is connected by the rod H with the valve D, which is located in the supply-pipe M N, between the tank and ump. p S is a spiral spring, which acts upon the upperside of the piston P.v
Z is a hinged valve that makes the connection between the alarm YV and the large cylinder A.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the valve Z. The rghtband section shows the shape of ythe valve and the valve-seat. Said valve is straight acrossthelowcr edge, where it forms a hinged connection with -its'support, and is scalloped to facilitate its working. In the left-hand section the valve is shown slightly tipped.
Y is a spiral spring attached to the side of the cylinder at its upper extremity and to the lever of the valve Z.

Operation.
When the water in thev boiler and cylinder evaporates to below the true water-line, the float F sinks therewith and opens the valve O, permitting steam to pass from thc large cylinder A into the small cylinder B, where it acts against the underside of thel pistonP, forcing it upward and opening the valve D, which permits the free passage of water from the tank to the pump, by which the boiler is supplied.
When sluicient water has been forced into the boiler to fill it to the truewater1ine the float, rising therewith, closes the valve O, shutting ott' the steam from the piston P, when, bythe reaction of the spring S, the piston is forced downward, closing the valve D, thus preventing high water in the boiler. When, through accident to the pump or failure of supply-water, the water in the boiler is evaporated Ito the alarm water-line, the oat F sinks therewith,
and the pin X, in the stem G,strikes the lever ofthe alarm valve Z, opening the valve and permitting the steam to sound the alarm W, thus calling the attention of the attendant.
. When the boiler is again filled to the true water- `the alarm-valve Z.
If, at any time, the attendant wishes to know whether the alarm be in working order or not, 11e can try it by pressing upon the test-pin T, which is connected .with said valve, wherewith hc can open the valve'and try the alarm.
Claims.
The combination oi' the small cylinder B,'piston P, spring S, and rod H, with a globe or other valve located in the feed-water pipe of a boiler, between the pump and tank, substantially in thc manner and for the purpose above set fort-h.
2. The combination of the accident or low water alarm W with the feed-water regulator, substantially the manner and for the purpose above described.
