MUSIC-SPOOL nnan To' (ZZZ whom it may concern and FREDERICK L. \Vooo, citizens of the United States, and residents of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Music-Spool Heads, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in music spool heads and the object of our invention is to provide a new and improved head for spools on which pertorated music sheets are wound, such as'are used in mechanically playing musical. instrun'ients, which spool heads are simple in construction. strong and durable, handsome in appearance, and easily applied.
In the HtfLlL'P -lIlylDg drawings in which like letters of reference indicate like parts in all the figures: Figure 1. is a face View of one of our new and improved music spool heads. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the lint a of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of a music spool provided with our improved heads, parts being broken away.
A sheet metal disk 1 is struck with a. (Bitcumfercntial flange 2 on one face and arent-rzl neck 3 on the opposite face. A- struck up sheet metal cup 4 is provided in its rim with an" upwardly extending flange 5 which fits against the inner face of the rim fiange '52 ot' the disk 1 and the said flange 2 is then folded over inward over the flange 5 of the cup to form the rim head 6 on the outer face ot' the head, whereby the disk 1 and cup 4 is provided in its raised central portion with an exterioucircular recess 7 of sufficient depth and of such shape or configuration as to receive the end of a bearing pivot 0r clutch between which the roll is held and rotated when in use in conventional manner. A tube 9 is inserted through the neck 3 until its inner end rests against the inner-surface of the cup 4 and its outer end projects some distance, greater or less, beyond ,the neck 3, and this tube is held securely in place by punching tongues 10 out of the neck and tube and pressing thorn inward. The free ends of the tubes 9 are inserted in the open Specific-a1 \0}! of Letters Patent.

ends of a barrel 11, preferably made of paste ooard. One head is securely held in place in the end of the barrel 11 by a pin 1.2 passed through the spool and the inserted adjustable lengthwise of the barrel and is held'by a pin 13 passed through the barrel and through longitudinal slots 14 in the in serted tube 9, and the free end part of this tube is slitted lengthwise as at 15 and slightly spread to'form spring fingers which 'rious adjustments.
Having described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. Tn amusic'spool head, the combination with a disk, of a cup held on the same, said cup having means for engaging a spool bearing and a tube projecting beyond the outer face of the disk, the inner end of said tube resting against the inner surface of the cup, substantially as set forth.
2. In a music spool head, the combination with a disk, of a cup held on the same, said cup having means for engaging a spool bearing and a neck projecting from the outerface of the disk and a tube held on and projecting outwardly beyond said neck, substantially as set forth.
3. In a music spool head, the combination with a disk, of a cup held on the same, said cup having means for. engaging a spool hearing and a neck projecting from the outer face of the disk and a tube held on and projecting outwardly beyond said neck, the inner end of said tube resting against the inner surface of said cup, substantially as set forth.
.4. In a music spool head, the combination with a disk, of a cup held on the same, said cap having means for engaging a spool bearing and a neck projecting from the outer face of the disk and a tube held on and projecting outwardly beyond said neck, and inwardly projecting parts punched tlifough the neck and tube, substantially as set; forth.
5. In a music spool head, the combination with a disk, of a cup held on the same, said cup having means for engaging a spool serve to hold the adjustable head at its va-' ud of the tube 9. The other head is made bearing and a. neck projecting from the,
