holes When inserting a cable, lthe clamping plate D is moved so'that the. holes G register with the holes B,'as shown The cable is then inserted and the screw I screwed inward with the result that the f plate is drawn down To all fwwmvz't may concern.'
Bejitknown that I, GRANVILLE E. PALMER, acitizen of the United States, residing at county of Hartford, '-State 'of Connecticut, have invented certain new and usefulf" Improvements in' l/Vall-Cases, of' which the following is a full, clear, and eX- act' description. My in-velfiticnv relates to wall cases, and has for vits {object to provide a wall case having asimple vand eiicient means for fasteninga cablesecurely .therein on one or more sides.- thereof, and particularly in' means for securing a cable in any one of several sides, and consists of certain features hereinafter shown and described. v-
.The following is a' description of my invention, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l represents an'end elevation of the casing with a cable inserted therein, but not secured. Fig. 2 represents a longitudif nal section of the same on the line -m, Fig. j
Fig. 3 represents an end elevation of the same, with the clamping means adjusted so as to secure the cable. Fig. 4 representsa longitudinal section of the same on the line .r`m', Fig. 1, with va cable inserted through another opening and clamped therein. Fig. 5 4isa perspective view of the clamping plate, and Fig. 6 is the side elevation of a detail.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, A. represents the. casing of a wall case, aving openings B in the bottom and vertical sides thereof, some of which openings may be closed by disks G in the ordinary manner.v D is a clamping plate having upturned an upturnedV front end portion F. The bottom of the plate and the upturned portions Eand F have' holes.. G which correspond witli the holes the' bottom and `vertical, sides Lofthe casing, so that when 'one hole -G is ,in line with itsl correspondinghole B, the otherholes G are in line with their correspondingholes. The plate D has a slot H which is narrower at itsvrear end than at its front end. Through this lslot passes a vscrew I, which screws into the 'bottom 'of the casi g A. The 'rear end of the clamp Dis hel away from the bottom of the casnigibyia downturned flange 5I. K-K are cablespassing through one or mdrelof rthe `holes B andlthe VIcorresponding vupon any cables which may havebeenfin.- serted through the portionsE and F;
and produces a clamping action upon4 cables which G of the bottom of the' corresponding holes B in -the ybottom' ofthe casing.- The -ends 'of the cables are.v thus verysecurely held. In case a cable isl tobe inserted -through the hole B,'the v p l knocked out and the plate -D isv shifted around, thescrew supplemental hole'z' in the casing. l,
y invention permits of v rious modifi-A cations withogt departing from the spirit thereofy or the "subject-matter? referredy to in the appended claims.
' at I claim is :j
1. In a wall case,'the cylilnbination of a casing having cable ope ings, means for holding one end of saidvpl'ate awayl froIIL the b ottom ofsaid-casing, a'slot in said plate aving its end adjacent rower than thev end remote therefrom, and
the bottom of said casing, said screw ,havin a tapered portion engaglngthe sides of's'ai slot and acting to both secure said clamping plate-to said casing and force the openings of said clamping plate out of alinement with said casing openings. v 2 In a Wall case, the combination of. a of sides thereof, a clamping plate having corresponding openings, said clamping plate' the other, means adjacent' to -said narrower screw passing'through 'said clamping plate. and entering saidcasing and` lhaving.-v a tapered surface engaging said slot,
action ofthe plate D 1 are inserted through the holes i. plate D, vandthe I being screwed into'the 80 to said means nar'- a screw passing through said slot and into..
'100 f casing having cableV openingsin a plurality having a slot narrower at one end lthan at end for holding that portion of,l the Lplate awayfrom the bottom of the casing, and a 3. lin a wall case, the combination 0i a casing having cable openings in its bottom, a clamping plate having openings corresponding therewith, end of said clamping plate away from the bottom of said casing, said clampingpiate having a slot narrowing toward the end ot' said clamping plate adjacent to said means, and a screw passing through said slot and into said casing, and having a tapered sun face engaging said slot.
4. in a wall case, the combination ci a casing having cabie openings in an end and sides thereof, a clamping plate having corresponding openings adjacent to said cable openings, means for holding the portion of the clamping plate remote from said end of the casing away from the bottom oit said case, said clamping plate having a slot narrowing toward the portion adjacent to said holding means, and a screw passing through said slot and into said casing, and having an inclined surface engaging said slot-.
5. inca wall case, the combination of a casing having cable openings in an end and bottom and sides thereof7 a ciamping plate having corresponding openings adjacent to said cable openings, means for means for holding one the clamping plate holding the portion of of the casing away G. In a device of the character described,
the combination of a base having a conduit i opening therein7 a clamping plate on one side of said base, a holding screw having a conical surface and passing through one of said members and engaging screw-threads in the other, said member through which said screw passes having an elongated slot narrower at one part than at another and against the edges of which said :tace bears, said screw part of said slot when said plate is in nonclamping position and in the wide part of said slot when said plate is in clamping position'.
