Description

B. LEE. COMBINED SGBUBBBR AND MOP. nuxcnxox mum 11110.12, 1 10.

=2 e i l s-- i i l l I l i I '5 LA- UNITED ST TES PATENT oFsron L BRYANT LEE, OF BRENHAM, TEXAS.
COMBINED SCRT J'BBER AND MOP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 12, 1910. Serial 110. 596,950.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, BRYANT-LEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bren a scrub brush, a water receptacle, and a mop oblong loop 13, which may be rotated -piston 8' 1s provided to reci receptacle and is operated t 7 rod 9.
all combined in one utensil and tofurther provide a mechanism for wringing the mop. With the above and other objects in view my invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction and operation an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figural is a plan view--of the device showing a portion of the handle broken away and the mop removed. Fig. 2 is a side view thereof, showing also the. mop and showing the stirrup, in dotted lines, in its withdrawn position.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures, the numeral 3 refers to the handle of the utensil to the end of which a suitable scrub brush 4 is secured, preferably by means of a bolt 5.
The numeral 6 refers to a liquid receptacle, carriedby handle 3, whi'ch is pro-. vided with an inlet 7 whichvalso serves'as, a dischar e outlet therefrom. 'suitable rocate in the rough piston The numeral 10 refers to a bearing memher which is secured to handle 3 on the side opposite the liquid receptacle. This member is provided to support'the crank 11 whichoperates in bearing 12 and to the lower end of which is rigidly secured tile 3 the manipulation of said crank.
The-numeral 14 designates a wire stirrup hingedly secured to the back of, brush 4 and normally held extended, as shown Figs. 1 and 2 by means of coil wire springs 15' and 16 which operate thereagainst as shown in Figs 1. 1 The-numeral 17 designates a mop cloth which is stretched between loop '13; and the transverse portion of stirrup Hand is heldin-position thereon by means of'teeth .18.
which engage with said cloth.
. In" use the receptacleis first filled with water, in the well understood manner,.'and' stiril'pp 14 drawn back and hook 19, carried by caring member 10, engaged thereover so a to hold the mop withdrawn from con? tact with the surface to be cleaned. The piston 8 is then manipulated, through-"rod 9,-so as to cause a discharge of the water, through discharge out-let Z, and beneath the brush. When the surface 'hasbeen suifi ciently scrubbed the stirrup l l'may be dis engaged from hook 19 and the same willbe immediately distended, through the opfera j tion' of springs 15 and 16 and the mopclotlf' drawn tight. The utensil may thenbe re versed and used as a mop to dry the scrubbed surface. When .the'mop has absorbed all of the liquidit will hold, it may readily be wrung by a suitable manipulation of crank; 11 as is readily obvious. I
A utensil constructed as described in this specification and illustrated in the drawings accompanying the same and made a part thereof will be found to be compact and practical and'combine in one, the features which usually require three separate devices.
What I claim is a" 1. In a combined mop and scrubbin brush, a suitable handle, a scrubbing brus secured upon the end thereof, a mop holding stirrup hingedly secured to the brush and resilient means carried by the brush and operating against the stirrup and nor mally-ho1ding the same extended, a hook carried by the handle arranged to enga e with the stirrup and hold the same wit drawn, a -rotatableloop carried by the hendle and a mopcarried by the stirrup and loop, and means carried by said handle or rotating said loop. I "1 2. In a combined mop and scrubbing brush, a suitable handle, a scrubbin brush secured to one end thereof, a mop olding stirrup hingedly secured to the brush an Patented Jan. 23,1912.
operating against'the stirrup and holding two subscribing witnesses.
the same extended, a rotatable loop carried BRYANT LEE by the handle, a mop carried by the stirrup 5 and loop and means for rotating the loop Witnesses:
