Description

JAMES NOLAN, OF OXFORD, NEV JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF ANDE. T. HENRY, OF SAME PLACE.
.'IMPROVED FEEDING APPARATUS-FOR NAIL-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 10 l,496. dated April 5,1870.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JAMES NOLAN, of OX- pford, county of Warren, and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Im through the line x x, Fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to improve the construction of the self-feeders of nail-ina chines, to prevent them from being broken should anything get beneath the barrel or get out of order; and it consists in so constructing the feeder that the barrel niay yield should anything get beneath the barrel, and in the construction of the device by which this is accomplished, as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the bed of the machine.
B is the frame that supports the bed-knife O.
D is a bracket adjnstably attached to the bed A by screws.
E is a bracket adjustably attached to the bracket D by screws. The screws that fasten the brackets D'and E pass through slots in said brackets, so that the brackets may be adjusted in different directions.
F is a bolt or center-pin, that passes through the bracket E, and is secured to said bracket by two nuts, which are adjustable by the screw G.
H is the revolving barrel that receives and holds the nail-plate while it is being out, and which revolves in a journal-box attached to the upper end of the arm I, which arm thus supports the said revolving barrel H. Upon `the lower end of the arm I is formed a boss,
J, through which the bolt or. center pin F passes, and which rides upon the said bolt or pin.
K is a slot or opening in the boss J, `which allows it to rise and adjust itself, in case anything gets under the revolving barrel H, between it and the knife C, or gets out of order.
L is a' bar letinto the boss J, and which crosses the slot or opening K, to prevent the arm I J from slipping off the bolt or pin F when the revolving barrel H is thrown back to grind the machine.
M is a connecting-rod worked by a gear-A wheel on' the spindle of the nail-machine, (not shown in the drawings,) and attached to a pin y upon the journal-box in which the barrel H l. A supporting-arm, I J, for a :nail-platev feeder, vibrating on a pin, F, and having a radial slot, K, to allow the barrel H to rise when anything becomes interposed between it and the table, all as set forth.
2. The combination of vibrating arm I J, slotted, as shown, and a spring-rod, M, formed in two parts, as set forth, with the barrel H, all constructed and arranged as and for the purpose specified.
JAMES NOLAN.
