ELECTRIC SWITCH.
To all urhom` it may concern.'
De it known that I, JAMES E. DU'VAL, a citizen of the United States, residing at- `Bowie, in the county of Montague and State ot' Texas,- have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Switches; and i do hereby `declare the following to be affidi, clear, and exact description of the invention, suchas will enable others skilled in the art towhich it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to switches or connections for coupling the sections of a line wire used in connection with telephones or telegraphs; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts herel inafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a longitudinal section through a switch ory coupling constructed according to this invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section through the switch, taken on the line -w in Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through the switch taken on the line in I S`ig. 2.
A and B are two sections of an electric line wire, such as a telephone Wire, and the switch is provided so that these sections can be disconnected at will, for instance when a thunderstorm is impending.

The insulating nia-- terial prevents the current from flowing from the wire sections through the hands in operating the switch. The hook is disengaged by pushing it farther Within the case and then tilting the bar F against the pressure of one of the springsGr suiiiciently to enable the hook to be withdrawn past the pin. The springs Gr normally bear against the case and prevent the bar F from tilting accidentally, and the contact springs D bear against the tlatsides of the bar and guide it into engagement with the pin and also insure a satisfactory contact for the passage of the electric current from one Wire section to the other. The springs G Work in the spaces in the case' between the contact springs D.

The combination, With two line Wire sections, of a case secured to one section and provided with a pair ot contact 'springs and a pin arranged crosswise of the case, a bar secured to the other wire section and provided with a hook for engaging with the said pin when thrust into the case between the contact springs, and springs secured to the edges of the said bar and bearing against the case. l
2. The v:oinbinat-ion, with two line Wire sections, of a case having one end secured to one section and having a pair of flat contact springs projecting within it from its other end, said casing having also a pin arranged crosswise of it, a flat bar secured to the other wire section and provided with a hook for engaging with the said pin when thrust into the case between the contact springs, and springs secured to the edges of the said bar and bearing against the case and working in the spaces between the said contact springs.
