IMPROVEMENT IN 'WOD PAVEMBNTS.

To whom it may concern Be it known that I, S. H. INGERSOLL, otNew York city, in thel county of New York and State of New York, have, as'I believe, invented new anduseful Improvements in Street-Pavements; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description ofthe same, reference being had to the drawings that accompany and form a part of these specications.

This grooving consists in cutting out from each end of the block, forming a channel ot' more or less width, as may in this respect appear advisable, having a curved base line, as indicated by dotted lines nin the side view of single block in this said tig. 1.

B, grooves or channels cut in the blocks A, as illustrated in fig. l of the drawings. These in width may be one inch or so, extending both horizontally and vertically toa degree that experiment shall demonstrate to secure the best results of t-he device.
The substructure for these blocks A may be planking or gravel, broken stone, concrete, or cement.
The spaces B are to he filled in the usual'way with tar and gravel or broken stone, or any suitable material that will keep well in place and presenta firm and rough or not slippery surface to the foot of the-horsc. The manner of placing and arranging the blocks with 'relation to each other can be well understood from the drawings.v

The blocks A A A, when provided with the channels B, when said channels are of the form illustrated and the blocks arranged as described and specified.
