sUsPENsIomLoor Fort ELECTRIC FIXTURES.
To all whoin it concerns;
Be it known that I, ROBERT. S. Asrnv- Cleveland, in the county'of Cuya-' certain new. and usefulv Improvement in Suspension-Loops for ElectrieFixtures, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. 5
Thifinve'ntion is a novel form of loop especially adapted for use in flexibly suspending electric lighting fixtures, or to ,form a part of means for flexibly suspending such electric lightingfixtures. I
The object is to; provide a good looking and comparatively cheap loop through which the electric conductor may be easily and which may conveniently be con-. disconnected from the part.
nected with and r from which it is to hang or the part which isto hang from it.
y In the drawin bf a completed" oop. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section thereof; and Fig. 3 is a yransverse section in a plane indicated by ine 33 on Fig. 2.
.- Each loop'in which the invention is embodied is composed of three independently niade pieces, viz thebodypiece A,-'a split lying B and a tubular thimble C. The body iece hasa'lon itudinal hole a through it 'rom end to en and this hole is threaded from one end more or less nearly halfway through to the other end. In each body piece also are two "diametrically opposed ring sockets a.
The ,ring Bx-i's split and is preferably made of springjmetal. Its ends are bent so thatjor asnort distance they are more or lessnearl' straight and well nigh in alinenie'rit' wit each 'othe r, and are separated sufiioiently far to'enable them to be sprung apart and inserted into the'ring sockets a. jThe tubular thimble C is externally that one end ay be screwed into the b0 piece, while as other end is adapted to he screwed into whatever the loop is to be connected with.
Specification of Letters Patent. nation filed May 15, 1911. Serial 116. 627,141.
of phio have invented amade Figure 1 is an elevation Patented Dec. 26,1911.
- There are several advantages of the con struction. The electric conductor has to pass through. the holein the loop and thimble, -and since the suspending ring can be turned down to the side, it is easy to thread the'conductor through this hole; moreover, the loop may be connected with a suspending chain or the like by springing the ring out of its socket at one side or the other. y
The thimble. is to be screwed into some part of the electric device, and this may be done and the loop screwed up tight because the threads on the thimble go close up to the body. If the thimble were made a part of the body it is well nigh impossible to carry the threads thereon upto the body. This thimble, as shown, being without. shoulders or other complications, may be in an automatic through which a tube of indefinite length will be automatically fed, and after being threaded, suitable lengths will be cut 0H, and the thimble produced may be screwed into the body.
Having desfl'ibed my invention, I claim: 1 I
1. In a 1001 for electric lighting fixtures, the combination of a tubular body which is internally threaded part Way through,
screw machine with an externally threaded tubular thimble screwing into said body piece, and a suspension ring connected with saidbody piece.
2. In a loop for electric lighting fixtures, the combination of a tubular body piece,
which is internally threaded from one end,
. an externally threaded tubular" thimble which screws into said body piece, and a split ring, said body piece being provided near its unthreaded end with diametrically opposed sockets which receive the ends of .;said split rings.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT s. AsP Nw'ALL.
