I QA ZQWAMMM BW t may concern:
n that I, ALEXANDER CONSTAN- Jr., citizen .of Great Britain, 4 Porchester Terrace, London, have invented certain new and vements in Air-Gas Apparatus,
ollowing is a specification.
of my invention is to provide extinguishing the back flash any time likely to occur with self supporting gas apparatus of ignition, and which is a of danger, and to carry my infl ect I construct my improved 1 inguisher as follows, reference 0 the accompanying drawing 1 section and part elevation of my app I ongated enlargement A which Iorms =1 a delivery pipe B from supply, an p burner, of a greater diameter that th itself and fit into this enlarged 'ated metal drum or other suit- I j j aving the end remote from the cut off square, which blocks r of the enlargement with the 1 a space all around it, the secf the space around not being area of the pipe, the action of ent being to spread the gas ge thin layer instead of allowf in the solid mass it would if if ent were not inserted, and by have found that no back flash 5 extinguisher, the reason being being suddenly spread out in is immediately cooled below M at which self supporting d consequently any back flash extinguished the instant the Specification of Letters Patent.

flame reaches the extinguisher. These extinguishers may be placed in any part of an air gas system where back flash is likely to take place, thus rendering any system perfectly safe in this respect.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed I declare that what I claim is 1. In a device for extinguishing the back flash in gas burning apparatus, the combination with the supply pipe having a portion intermediate its ends of greater diameter than the rest of the ipe, of an imperforate elongated baffle mem er in said enlargement, said baffle having a substantially flat face directed toward the burner and being of a diameter such that a space between its outer periphery and the inner periphery of the enlargement results, the sectional area of said space being not less than that of the supply pipe.
2. In a device for extinguishing the back fiash in gas burning apparatus, the combination with the supply pipe having a portion thereof substantially cone shaped and of greater diameter than the rest of the pipe, of an imperforate substantially cone shaped baflie member in said enlargement the base of said member being substantially flat and directed toward the point of consumption, there being a space all about said baffle, the
sectional area of which space is not less than that of the supply pipe? In testimony whereof I atfix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
