B e it known that I, MICHEL J. WozNAoK, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city of Seattle, in the county of King and State of l/Vashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Teeth for Excavators or the ifike, of which the following is a specicaion.
.My invention relates to teeth for steam excavators, dredgers and like machines, and has for a primary object to provide a construction wherein the removable point can be firmly held and spreading of the side walls of its seat prevented.
Other objects will be set forth as my description progresses and those features of construction, arrangements and combinations of parts on which I desire protection, succinctly defined in my annexed claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawing wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout Figure 1 is a top plan of a tooth constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the point removed, and Fig. 4 is a vertical cross sectional view taken on line 4 4 of Fig. 2.
Reference numeral 1 indicates the body of the tooth whose upper face is inclined up-` wardly in a rearward direction and formed with a seat 1 for reception of the shank 3 of point 4. At its rear portion, body 1 is provided with the usual arms 2 and 2', spaced to receive the front edge portion of the shovel or scoop therebetween.
The bottom wall of seat 1 is inclined downwardly in a forward direction, byl
which construction the greatest depth of the seat occurs at its mouth, this being desirable inasmuch as shank 3, which corresponds thereto with respect to this tapering feature,
must be particularly strong at its forward end portion on which point 4 is provided, as
will be apparent.
Reference numeral 5 indicates longitudi-v Should point 4 strike heavily upon the ground lduring lowering of the shovel, the upper inclined walls or faces of extensions 5 will act in conjunction with the abutting upper faces of grooves 6 to exert an inward pressure on the side walls of seat 1, and thereby hold the same against spreading.
