To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE O. LILLER and FRANK G. KAUFFMAN, citizens of the United States, residing at Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand-Vibrators, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawmg.
This invention relates to a massage apparatus of that class which is intended for imparting variable vibratory motion to the hand of the operator, and more particularly to thatclass which is designed to be mounted upon the back of the operators hand and have secured thereto the end of a flexible motor shaft.
The object of the invention is to produce a device of this kind that will be light, strong and compact, and while we are aware that there are are several devices now in use for this purpose, they are, on account of their construction, much larger and heavier, and do not produce an even throb of vibration.
Another object of our invention is by a novel construction of case and shaft weight to produce an even throb of vibration, and further, by the use of our form of case and shaft weight to be able to operate the apparatus and produce a greater number of vibrations per minute than is possible with the usual type of construction.
With these and other objects in view our invention consists in certain construction and combination of parts as will hereinafter be fully described and claimed in the annexed specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, and in which like figures of reference refer to corresponding parts in all of the views; butit is fully understood that while we have described our invention as shown, that we do not confine ourselves to the exact design as shown, as slight changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings :Figure 1, is a side elevation of our device as attached to the operators hand for use. Fig. 2, is a top plan view of the same, partly in section. Fig. 3, is a front end view of the same.
Referring to the drawings,the hand frame comprises the arched supporting back 1, which is formed upon its forward end with the finger rest 2, which is provided with the pad 3, and the attaching band 4, for engaging the two middle fingers; while the rear of said back 1, is formed with the rest 5, and the pad 6, for resting upon the back of the hand and being secured thereto by the resilient band 7.
Upon the arched back 1, is secured by the attaching screws 8, the base 9, of a spherical case comprising the members 10, and 11. Said spherical case members 10, and 11, being screw-threaded together, and each formed with an axial extension 12, and 13, respectively. The axial extension 13, is provided with the shaft bearing bushing 14; the ball bearing 15, in its forward end, and has its rear end internally threaded for the reception of the shaft casing 16. The axial extension 12, is also provided with a shaft bearing bushing 17 a thrust ball 18, and an adj usting screw 19, threaded into the outer end of said extension.
Within the bearing bushings 14, and 17, is mounted a shaft 20, and upon said shaft integral therewith and within said spherical case is mounted a semi-spherical weight 21, of slightly lesser diameter than the interior of said case; and said shaft 20, is attached in the usual way to the flexible motor shaft 22. The spherical case members having been secured together, the adjusting screw 19, may be set to take up any thrust of the shaft 20.
By the use of a spherical case and a semispherical weight we have found that a very even vibration may be obtained and owing to the shape of'said weight a great number of revolutions per minute may be obtained.
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a hand vibrator of the class described, the combination with a hand frame and a motor shaft, of a spherical case mounted within said case and of slightly less diameter than the interior of said spherical case.
